WHAT WAS I THINKING--or NOT???

After my last post, I was looking at the Folk pattern and noticed my Horsey was facing the wrong direction AND when I tried removing the paper, I couldn't.

So, (automatically thinking this method wouldn't work for me), I did Mrs. Sadie Squirrel and the body of Mr.Rocky Rooster by SEWING the allowance over--THEN...(I am not always the brightest bulb in the pack, obviously) I realized:  (Could it be that it was 2 am during one of my sleepless nights??? I'd like to believe that!!)

I realized I was thinking of my usual English Paper Piecing technique and had glued--yup--glued the seam allowance to the paper- duh! (It's OK, you can chuckle Teresa...)

So,this morning I went back to Teresa's tute and found that, of course, you use the paper ON TOP as the folding edge. And you glue stick the fabric to itself;  I feel very lame. Well, live and (hopefully) learn.

Well, I got a most of the paper off my horse and she will just be a horse of a different color facing the other way (probably avoiding looking at me!!).  As for Mrs. SS and Mr. RR, I will try appliqueing them as is and see how they look....

On a brighter note my  background fabric came in today and I just love the color: from Moda Fig line called "Wheat"--I just couldn't do a black quilt...

Here is Sadie Squirrel (who had better cooperate--I can always introduce her to 'Kota (see sidebar pix!!) Hah!!

My Horsey is Sporting Platform Shoes

FILE UNDER:  Testing, testing:  (Applique "Tails":)

Here she is: my first shakey attempt at prepared applique--she means to be a palomino in memory of the one I rode in California at a ranch of my Tante Mildred's friend when I was 12 years old and didn't know any better--her son (who, of course, was a cutie-pie) talked me into trying it--BAREBACK--sure, just hold onto the mane--you'll be fine....at least I didn't fall off that horse.....

Other than the flat feet (sigh)--how do you turn those tiny curves under?  And those impossiblely small turnunders between the legs-- and that teeney curve under her neck (yikes) I guess she'll do.  I felt as if my fingers were H U G E while turning those seams under .  OK.  Enough whining (or is it whinneying--hahaha!!) for this time.

Enough horsing (!) around for tonight...I am trying Mr. Squirrel next-  he'd better cooperate!!-need a night to recouperate from this one...Julierose, La Blageuse

Hats Off to you MA/Applique???

On this gloomy, freezing rain-spritzed day, after 6" of the "white stuff" yesterday, I was feeling kinda blue...

WHEN:  Mr. Postman brought me a package:

WOW!!  Just look at the lovely hat my good friend, MA, knitted for me.....way to go!!  It just lifted my spirits.  The rasberry highlights perfectly match my new "puffy coat" (down) that I got for Christmas.....no excuses now not to walk.  Will wear it tomorrow--if it ever stops raining here....

AND:

My same good friend made me a floppy beret (I just {heart} berets) in a very light dove-gray blue for Christmas this year--aren't I lucky to have my own personal knitter now that I can no longer knit??

A huge thank you goes out to you, MA.....

Here is The applique pattern  (by Lori Smith):  In my header I stated I want to learn to applique; well I am jumping off the high board and diving right in.....
Teresa  has excellent tutorials that I will be following.

Today I cut out my templates for the first block (top left above)  will post my progress (my feeble attempts to do this!)

No Pix Sunday: A Question

Question:  Do you find yourself (like I did this morning) looking at all your luscious fabrics and not wanting to cut into them?  I had to ask myself, what in the heck am I saving them for?  that "pie in the sky" fantastic project?  Or what?
SOOOOOO--
I jumped in and pulled out all those pretty blues, creams and beiges (sounds like a fabulous dessert, no?) and took a deep breath and started whacking off strips--3 7/8ths , 2", 1 1/2"--whatever.

I then subcut (per Bonnie Hunter's system) into squares and strips --all ready to become my next quilt.  Sigh--boy did that feel great--like I actually accomplished something, you know? What am I so anxious about--you'd think that fabric was leaving the planet tomorrow....and the world didn't come to a screeching halt because I actually used what I have!

Then, (hold onto your hats ladies):  I cut 10 1/2" squares to use for backings--all those gorgeous, sumptuous fabrics...(well...not all, really.  but a lot!!  I know, what am I going crazee here?   And...

Since I am on a supposedly "no more buying fabric" year...(ha! we'll see just how long that will last...) I even feel virtuous.  (Even though my left hand is aching--where oh where is that wrist support i sent for? H-e-l-p!!)

How do you gals feel about your "special" fabrics????

Think I'll match up those squares in pairs now....see ya

Friday's WIPS --a Shout out to MA--love le beret

More wonky spiders creating webs.....

Orange and red and....

Blues and greens...and

yellows and purples =

Don't know if I like the arrangement yet--need to make more of each color and, I think, perhaps a shocking pink one, too....we'll see  and...the yellow seems pale compared to the other colors...but yellow has a way of sparking up things.....
 AND

I have discovered that my sore left thumb is most likely tendonitis, not just arthritis...no wonder I get these sharp pains using it for piano, picking up items and holding things....thanks to my good friend, MA, who visited us (bearing her homemade pickles so dear to my heart!!)  over the past weekend, I have sent for a thumb support which should help.  Thanks MA!!
LOOK HERE:
Using Bonnie Hunter's "Leaders & Enders method (see her at "Quiltville") I got all these "twosies" made at the same time I was making my spiders.  Amazing, huh?

Found this January House :

And February House

...during my final  fabric bin clean-out:  .two older blocks I had begun, using the fused applique method and hand embroidery.  From an HGTV show with Alex Anderson called "Strolling the Block"--hope to continue finishing these  up this year.....

If I EVER can rid myself of this mega-cold bug that is....hangin' in tho'.

Mmmmmwah to all

Back from LA-LA-Land Fever

Finally, my fever has broken --it was stubbornly up over 100-101 for three brutal days--aargh.

Am done with meds and just have that hack-ack cough....

BUT--guess what got done for me by my husband while I was sick....

Look here:

A 72" long cutting/designing table installed over a cabinet of drawers-- and

see that one storage bin on the right hiding underneath--that's all that's left of my unsorted fabrics--the new spot is here:

Let's go open those closet doors... and...peek inside...

and the other side..

VOILA!!  There is my color-sorta-sorted stash!  I am so excited to have this done.  These shelves and the cabinet with drawers were being thrown out by a local school!!  Tommy rescued them, bought a door--polyurethaned it to death, and mounted it atop the cabinet and to the wall.  A Spacious new sewing room.  I can't wait to get in there and sew.

As far as Resolutions:  I think mine is S-L-O-W  W-A-Y  D-O-W-N; do one thing at a time and really enjoy it....it's not a race to see who can make the most quilts, but rather, a hobby for me.  Fun.  Relaxation. Stress buster.....

And here is my first "web" of my Garden Spider quilt...such fun..

I know that Grand'mere Rose would love it, too

She and my little bear friend perch atop my storage cabinet next to my machine and keep me company--

Julierose, La Blageuse (P.S.  Thanks Rosemary and Waggonswest for your well wishes--love hearing from you)
