                                            FIONA'S FOREST FAIRY (back)

I can't believe that I finished two big quilts in 2015 so far.....I made both of these in the QAYG
method and they really went fast....

Unfortunately, we couldn't get to Willa's little 2nd birthday party...;--(((

{But the good news is that my DH is feeling a whole lot better....;-))) }

But we will see them, hopefully, soon and gift them then.

It was so beautiful here today, we both sat out on our deck, Tom with his computer and
me with Mom's Poms which I am continuing to hand quilt.
I must say that the Valdani thread is wonderful--i just love working with it...

.(now I am spoiled!!)

ORTS

While waiting to hear from my Tommy re x-rays' results, I went to my sewing machine for some comfort---VOILA! the 2nd Rail Fence block is born!
AND

I have decided to take a page from RANDY'S BLOG and multi task by using leftovers from the Rails to start a quilt I have always wanted to make:

from Bonnie Hunter's freebies "Scrappy Trips".

She explains that any scraps will all go together in the end--boy, this is a bright one for me!! It uses leftovers from both the rail fence blocks and also an eye poppin' green and cheddar.....WOWSERS!!!!  ;--)))

Notice--I am NOT apologizing for adding TWO more quilts to my long list of UFO's....

Meanwhile:
I hear my butterflies flapping their wings in that box every time I open the closet..."Let us OUT!!"
I will have to decide what to do with them--in September...before they try to migrate to South America!!  lol

Hugs to all of you--enjoy your Sunday--her today,  it is very humid and overcast.
AC is on and am trying not to EAT A LOT--whenever something happens,
I tend to want to eat --a WHOLE LOT--and usually none of it good for me
Ya think???!!! HELL-o chocolate...;--)))

HOOPED

My first block quilted....

I had made this little pillow for Mom to keep her company.............now that Miss Libby
has gone home with her peeps it's keeping me company.

I am alone here as my DH was taken to hospital early yesterday morning.  He is doing
better today and I will be going to visit--and hopefully take him home if his xrays are clear....

In the meantime, in between time............   I will be linking to SLOW SUNDAY STITCHING

SNOW FLOWERS-An Old UFO

On this super HOT day,  I took out my SNOW FLOWERS hexagon piece that was begun eons ago.  I was hoping to cool myself off a bit.....and that perhaps it was not as badly "off" as I thought--which is why it got put aside in the first place.........

This is one of the first hexagon quilts I made-

AND -when I put it together I didn't really think it out very well..[.see corners below--that don't match....]

Etc.....so today I began to try to make them match up-And found out THAT:

UNLESS I TAKE THE WHOLE THING APART--which is NOT going to happen.....it will never quite match up. ;-0000

So, I will make it into an asymmetrical piece.....good old rationalization to the rescue yet again.....lol

I plan to applique it onto more white on white (hence SNOW) and hope that it will blend into that background....

I was able to add a few (20) hexies today and it is a bit better.......but it will never be perfectly even...

And so it goes...at least I am making inroads on my UFO's....

SLOWDOWN SUNDAY

I WILL BE LINKING UP WITH KATHY'S QUILTS as I begin my hand quilting of Mom's Poms..

Yesterday my Valdani 12 thread arrived; I got the "Artists' Palette" mix and have chosen these two --so far-- to use.  I plan to big stitch.

this  for the centers and

I will try this dark purple  for the blocks--I don't know if it's too dark as yet.

Here's my helper keeping me company after chasing the deer from our backyard this morning

                                                         ;--))).

Keeping an eye out for any stray deer that may dare to wander into our yard....

THE LIBB-STER HAS ARRIVED

                                                                 Miss Libby

I MAY NOT BE BLOGGING AS FREQUENTLY FOR THE NEXT 10 DAYS.......
SOMEONE WANTS TO PLAY...............................A LOT!  ;-)))))))

SHE ALWAYS HAS ONE EYE OPEN JUST IN CASE WE WANT TO GO FOR A "w -a- l-k--"
[have to spell it, of course]

[Maybe my "peeps" will come in this way.........................]

I think she misses her family--
with four kids always ready to play tug-o-war or keep away......

[It's kinda quiet here at my grandparents' house, so I guessI am on R&R.....]

MY GRAND-MERE'S QUILTS--(Wednesday Memories)

                                                       Airing out Grand-mere's quilts

these are the only two of my Grand-mere's quilts I have; the Dresdan Plate is in very
bad condition--faded, torn and I think, much used and loved ;--))))

all these fabrics in the wedges are from my mother's (Cherie's) and my Tante's (her sister Mildred's) dresses....

Difficult to capture on film,.,..,so faded....my Grand-mere did all the stitching and quilting.
she used the  Baptist Fan pattern--I have a leather template my Grand-pere made for her  that has drilled holes to mark dots for the fans.

This" Roses" 2nd quilt is in very good shape; it was a joint effort for my Mom, her sister and Grand'mere.

Mom did the embroidery centers here--she was really precise and an excellent stitcher....as you can see:
and here

And Tante Mildred did the green stitching throughout.  Grand'mere did all the button hole stitches and hand pieced and hand quilted it...on her quilting frame.  I am sure some of her sewing friends must have put a few stitches in there, too.

This last quilt was on my bed when I was growing up...

                                                                  "Roses" for Julierose ;--)))

I take them out to air a couple times a year and re-fold or roll them....I hesitate to use them as they are so fragile....

hope you enjoyed seeing some old, much loved quilts...

Hugs, Julierose, La Blageuse

YOU NEVER KNOW

LOOK WHAT JUST HAPPENED!!  OUR 50 YR OLD APPLE TREE JUST CAME DOWN.   BIG HUGE CRACK!!!!

WE WERE JUST REMARKING THAT IT HAD THE BIGGEST CROP OF APPLES WE'VE SEEN THIS YEAR.....

I THINK IT'S TIME HAD COME.....WE HAVE A CALL INTO A TREE SERVICE BUT IT'S PRETTY LATE IN THE DAY AND RAINING
SO MAYBE TOMORROW.....

I'M JUST HAPPY IT DIDN'T LAND ON A CAR OR PERSON....

HATE TO LOSE SUCH AN OLD BEAUTY--IT WAS JUST LOADED WITH BLOSSOMS IN THE SPRING....
I THINK TONIGHT THE DEER WILL HAVE A HUGE FEAST--OUR DRIVE IS FULL OF APPLES....
IT WILL REMAIN A DELIGHTFUL MEMORY.....

HUGS, JULIEROSE, LA BLAGEUSE ( SANS POMMES)

RAINY DAY BASTING THOUGHTS

I'd forgotten just how relaxing basting a quilt in preparation for hand quilting can be;
we are (finally!) having a day of good, soaking rain here.  Mom's Poms will be ready for hand quilting soon....meanwhile, i am "wool gathering" with the sound of the rain as my music.....

Here is the lovely plant that Cathy and Dave sent me upon hearing of Mom's passing--
isn't it GORGEOUS??
Geraniums, begonias and a sword fern....those colors remind me of Mom's joy in living and
that sword plant--just a few prickles to show she was human....;--00,;--)))

I'll be slowly basting, a little at a time, with respites for my back; that is my only project for the week.

I am RE- reading "Ageless Body, Timeless Mind" by Deepak Chopra
....................................... and balancing it with .....................................

Laurie R. King's "The Language of Bees"--a Sherlock Holmes/Mary Russell mystery ...

.and...........................

knitting my 2nd pair of socks....
.
and so life moves on.....
