Fa La La La LA---La La La LA!....Shhhhh
After spending a wonderful day at my son's house (eating myself out-of-my-clothes for sure--but Yuuuum, really!!)
and:
holding and feeding and cuddling my new granddaughter, Fiona; today I went to work on what're gonna be two lap quilts for my twin grandsons: WIPS...
Now.. Gregory likes blue
And Connor likes red--
I am using up wintry, christmas-sey and celestial and animal prints for the holiday side and then a superheroes large print for each backside. Hopefully, I will get them done IN TIME!!
Log Cabin work is one of my all-time favorites; I started out using Mary Ellen Hopkins' "A Log Cabin Notebook #5" in 1991 and have continued with her really stress-free method--more or less "not to worry"--if they are not all the same size...do not fret. I LOVE all her books--she has a no-nonsense approach and a super sense of humor....
What are your favorite types of blocks to make? Also, another question..(I AM chatty-cathy today...) do you have a drop-in sewing table? I miss mine since my new Viking won't fit into my old table....am kind of looking out for one that doesn't cost "to Mars and back"-(-did you see the launch today???)
Best to all in our holiday hoedown stitch to the finish countdown...Julierose, La Blageuse

File Under: "Like I really need M O R E fabric???" or True Confessions
I just couldn't resist grabbing this "Daily Deal" from the Missouri Star Quilting Co.'s newsletter--Cabbages and Roses by Moda:
I subscribe to their drool-fest--Yup: they have a deal online each morning. Talk about your temptation! This is a pre-cut Layer Cake (10' x 10" squares) --Yum-- the most lovely widely scattered prints. I have trouble locating prints with a lot of white background and grab them when I can. ( I am trying very hard to put myself on a fabric diet--begone temptation, begone all you new fabrics out there calling my name..... Ha! See how that's working for me?)
Also--more true confessions: ordered Kona Pepper after seeing OhFransson 's new "Aliens" quilt--soooo cute and has those lovely little squares I love doing, too....I have very few solids in my stash--so I really really HAD to...uh huh....
And so, you might well inquire--"And what do you plan to make with this, Julierose?" Hmmmm. well for now, I am just looking and feeling....I am definitely a fabric-floozy!!
And now for a : TA-DA Moment:
Here is the just-about finished "A-Tisket, A-Tasket Basket" wall hanging--I just have to hand- stitch the binding to the reverse side--and voila--done!! And, phew--in time for the Holiday Fund raiser at my Mom's Nursing Home....for the Arts and Crafts Dept, too.
(By the way: Does anyone else hate to machine sew their binding on? The quilt, slithers and slides and catches, and is just generally a pain in the butt!! I throw it over my shoulder, grab it as it falls off the table.... Whoa, there quilty--
This is my least favorite part of the process. I always also end up forgetting to check to see if the bobbin will run out--and it inevitably seems to....quel horreur!! Aaaaargh....)
(Thanks to Timothy O'Houlihan [aka hubbykins]--hahaha--for holding it up for me!!)
Well, enough moaning for one day, huh? See ya Julierose, La Blageuse Heurese.....

Moon Madness
I haven't been able to post for a while--the cold turned into bronchitis--yuck!
Meanwhile....
I am thrilled to be taking my online course with Jude (check out her fabulous offerings!! ) and have been able to only hand sew a bit--actually in--the--bed sick!!
Here is one "beastie" in progress using many of my own hand dyes;
And here is a "moon cloth" using mostly my own hand dyed cloth--the bottom strip is the only commercial one--this is such fun!!

Nor'Easter aftermath
Having fun: my four grandchildren and my daughter have been staying with us as they have no power...no time to post, sew, breathe: instead: a gazillion batches of laundry, card games, long walks to the beach, sleeping bags, baseball cards, drawings.... and visits to Mom in nursing home... etc....will be back soon...Julierose, La Blageuse
