Come and take a peek with me......

With the help of my handsome assistant....TAAA-DAAAA
OJOS has reached its flimsy stage.....

It Grew and Grew and Grew..
How did this happen?

It started out as a few blocks for leftovers...
I guess I had a LOTTA leftovers

Here it is draped over my living room chair....
with the morning light.............
                                                 the blues seem to sparkle.....

Now to find a backing for this one...

For this:
I will be opening both my backing box
and my Christmas fabrics box...

And then I plan to tie this one...

That's latest  the news for this Halloween morning....

Happy "Boos" to you all,
hugs, Julierose, La Blageuse (finally together-euse)

I pulled out my Autumn Leaves blanket/bedspread yesterday..and laid it on top of
my spare room double bed...

You can see that I also used some ojos for the borders in Fall prints...

Here are some blocks from the reverse side:

This is when we had "Clara Schumann" aka/Schumee our Calico kitty--
I just love all
those fabrics....;))

and  I grew roses and sipped a lot of tea...and, of course, my favorite musical print
that I wish
I had a few more yards of today..;(((

More teapots, and musical instruments and flowers and ocean waves...

All these fabrics remind me of our younger years......

and another fabric, the likes of which I cannot seem to find today.....
Love these vibrant, leafy prints....

A favorite block featuring fabrics I purchased on our trip to Maine one long ago
Summer--just the two of us for a short getaway....

Every year I take this out, I am sent down memory lane once again.....

I think this was the third Big Quilt I made--no labeling in those early days....
And not much $$ either to buy fabrics--so they were cherished purchases...saved from my
piano teaching money....
Autumn is the time for Remembrance....

Tonight I made Shepherd's Pie or as we called it "Portay-Chinois" for
our dinner. Both my Mom and my Grand-mere used to make this one....
It has:
Layers of cooked ground sirloin, 2nd layer-- corn niblets and, lastly,
topped with mashed potatoes (with a little sprinkling of paprika on top):

This gets cooked at 350 for about 1 and 1/14 hours and I remove the foil
for the last 15 minutes so that............................
those potatoes get all browned and bubbly on the top--YUUUUMMMY...
(I live for "brown stuff" ;}}} )

Thom and I love this meal
                                                       All-in-one dish...;)))

This time of year casseroles and slo-cooker meals just feel right, don't they?

And, this is all done ahead of time--so no FOUR-0'CLOCK cooking--just pop
'er in the oven @ 350 for about 1 to 1/14 hours...

Hugs from cool CT this morning...

Since my Halloween canvases have not yet arrived, I am working on this canvas
which features Halloween colors...above is the bottom left section I've just finished.

And here is the total picture--not Halloween-ey, except for colors: (but pretty!!)
I call it "Journey of the Mind"

here is the right lower section in progress--some of  you have have shown an interest in diamond painting; so you can see a "work in progress" below............
{I only uncover the small area I am working on...}

You can see the charted canvas and the drills (little square beads) I have applied as well as the empty spaces yet to be filled...each symbol stands for a color....

And here is my little tray to hold and sort beads:
Can you get an idea of how tiny they are?  I use my sticky pen and this tray....
(both of which are provided with the kit)  to pick them up and apply them to the piece pouring them out a little at a time from these containers below....

Here are the drills sorted by color and chart number...needless to say I have purchased a
whole lot of these containers.. (gulp!)
[the colors used (mostly, but some aren't ;((( ) are the same as the DMC colors for embroidery thread...so when I am finished I can store the leftovers in little baggies
in case I ever need them in the future... ]

I don't have ANY quilted Halloween pieces, so I thought  this picture could put me in the
Halloween spooky mood...(not my favorite holiday though).Boooooooo..

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend...despite the rain lashing that is expected....

I am hoping to sew the final two borders on OJOS..(I know , I thought I said no
more BIG QUILTS!!....sigh.. somehow, it "grew like topsy".) --

We have company coming on Sunday; so, Ojos has to be off the dining table by noon....
I haven't done a lot of sewing this week as I am fighting off a stubborn migraine...today
I just have a few "shreds" left, but light still bothers my eyes....πŸ‘€

The 2 Sugar Plum Fairies pictures for Willa and Fiona are done....

This one will be for Fiona

This one will be for Willa...

I just love all those soft colorations in both...;))))

I am hoping to find suitable frames at Michaels...as they are not exact sizes,
I may end up  having to figure out matting options also...something new
to learn....as custom framing would be super $$$-ive....;0000

I haven't really done any framing before--my Mom did all the framing of
stitcheries that we completed...she was really good at it....very precise....

So, this will be a new challenge...and as I have a lot more canvases waiting in
line, I need to learn this skill...

I plan to frame my lighthouse first as a "learning example":

Stay tuned for my framing experience....
                                                                happy posts...πŸ‘΅

                                    I have very few blue scrap strips left ;
A few more in my pinks stash...very old pieces that i want to use
up also--(they may find their way as a backing for my Log Cabin Looney
So these were the last four to be sewn today....

Here they are:
All set out ready to be sewn on either side and ends of
my ISF and ISR Ojos piece...
I have laid them out on my dining room table and will
transport them a few at
a time (all pinned) to my machine.

Here is how the sides will look...

When I first began to sew the pink variation, I didn't think I'd like them set up against
the darker centered ones; but, then I realized that if I continued the blues they
might just merge together well....Since the dark centers are so dark and vibrant
I think that the lighter pinks soften the main center very well.....
And being the scrap maven that I am, I love the variety of fabrics in
this piece..πŸ’“πŸ’•πŸ’—πŸ’œ

Our Friday night supper will be homemade bean soup with slices of
sourdough boule.  Simple and filling....πŸ™ŒπŸ˜Ί

hugs for a wonderful weekend...

Here reside: the tiniest little pieces of favorites from yesterday and today...
As you can see the pickings to make these Ojos are getting smaller and
the variety is getting low; but I am determined to "use them up".
And give me a lap quilt where i can wool-gather and look back; each fabric reminds me of my younger days...everything is so connected.............

Some Mom picked out and some my friend MaryAnn gave me (we used to
get together and trade 1/4-1/2 yds for variety.....

I have used the leftover sky fabrics deliberately through out this project
as it seems to bring back memories....now why and how do certain fabrics
do this?  This is one of the things I love about using scraps and strings and
bits and bobs...;))) πŸ’“πŸ’”πŸ’•πŸ’–πŸ’—

(singing "Sunrise, sunset, quickly go the days....")

and bobs
and cutoff

I haven't as yet had to actually sew
some together to lengthen strips--but that is in my future....

and here is how the pink/blues look against my ISF and ISR darker
blocks.....I think it looks so much better than the long strips---
but I just πŸ’ŸπŸ’žπŸ’ those strips--they will be another project....probably a
coins type....

so many years collecting fabrics...and these are just pinks, wine shades,
and blues....and I have whole lot of stacks of uncut left......a whole
wealth of heart-rending fabrics...and even if some are more loved
than others--when you use cut-offs, they all merge into a new whole
And a TAH--DAH----here:

Yes,  I finished Fiona's Sugar Plum Fairy Diamond Painting--
you cannot see the sparkle in this photo, but it just glimmers
and shines...

Both granddaughters play in their outside Fairy Garden a lot--so this will
be for those long winter "inside" days to remind them of Summer Days
to come...

I have set up and begun Willa's canvas....hers tends to use
lighter colors--more of a pastel re-creation....
I am really enjoying diamond painting...I find it so calming....
Chilly as it is today, Big Thom will be bbq-ing cheeseburgers and I will
fry up (don't you just love fry-ups???) green peppers and onions
in x-tra virgin olive oil to top them.....
and we will simply have baked beans to go
with on nice Water rolls....(mouth watering hereπŸ˜‰πŸ˜‹)....

Hugs from chilly CT,

The start of my softer-hued OJOS using the rest of my leftover blues and my
pink strips...along with a few lilacs that had snuck (;}}}) into the pink baggie..and a few
of the darker hues.

My thought is to try to somehow incorporate these along with the
ISF and ISR Ojos that I had made earlier:

[I decided that I didn't like the long strips on either side--so they are now residing in my drawer of "I don't know what to do with these now"..I love how they finished, but not with
the Ojos...maybe in a coin column piece in the future...]

I was thinking that I could add the new ones on-- because the blue Ojos would
just morph together and lead into the pinks on the top and bottom....
we'll see if that works out...
My stars are still not sewn together as I am still not sure how to set them....
As I am having a flu shot reaction and Mr. Wonderful is not --he stepped up to the
plate (or oven, really lol) and made us a wonderful tuna noodle casserole for dinner
tonight...it was so good...the noodles just went down well for my tummy.....

I have finished the 1st Sugar Plum Fairy and have set-up the 2nd one--
separating and labeling all the drills into little bead containers; it has much
lighter colorways (which should go well in Willa's Blue Bedroom...
whereas the stronger hued 1st one will go in Fiona's pink bedroom).

And that is the news from rainy CT tonight..

Hugs and prayers for all the hurricane victims....

I've been working on my first Fairy diamond painting for a "special girl" for
                                                        "Sugar Plum Fairy"

I am almost done with this one...the colors are really very soft and pastel
in real life.

This is so much fun...I have a second one waiting in the wings for my other
"special girl", too.

I cannot believe that my little granddaughter will be seven years already on the 15th; yesterday
we traveled up to my son's to see her and bring a pre-birthday cake and presents...

.Yes, it's for you ;)))))))FIONA

 chocolate with vanilla frosting
now, how did Grand-mere know that's
what you wanted???? Just Magical, right?

Question to Mommy the day before:
Fiona: Grand-mere and Grand-pere are coming tomorrow,
Mommy: Yes they are...

Fiona: do you think they remember that my birthday's coming?
Mommy:  Maybe....if you're really lucky..;))))

Don't forget to Make a wish while you cut now.....
                  Don't forget to light the "7" Grand-pere...;)))

Proud Mom and Dad snapping pictures

And here is Willa --
"I love cake, too, can I have TWO pieces?"

The two sisters are just so sweet together..
.(ahem, Mommy here:  "Sometimes...hahaha)
We had a wonderful bbq for luncheon and a good "catch-up"  oh and
Fi says:   "I beat Grand-mere twice in rummy..tee hee"
On the Starise front:

Three more stars in my firmament: I made one last week

and two this morning

Two more to a total of 28....
they are such fun to make--I am on a roll.....
