EN MASSE JOURNALING, et al

 

I began my first "En Masse" glue book

journey in 2023 and

I am still working on 

finishing pages....

Searching through old and new

magazines for just the right images

to "fit" in spots......

Here is one of my two "Eyes" pages

finished...

no white spaces here😁

and

A "Chair" page almost finished...

[I do see one little tiny spot right

above the seated lady's head--

oh and at the very top too...hmmmm]

IT'S A FINISH

 

"LOLLIPOP FLOWERS"

I began working on this, my first Medallion quilt,

in 2023 with Audrey for her SAL Medallion

type quilt process....Her instructions

for each section were so clear and

really spurred our online group all on...

Mine went through so many iterations and

growing pains: "I hate it!!",

"I can't do Medallions with all those borders!",

"My stash colors are ALL WRONG!" 

"Everyone else's looks so much better

than mine does!!"....

etc, etc, etc...

B U T.....

Now I am so happy that I stuck with it

through thick and thin...

My good friend, Lizzy 

was my most ardent cheerleader and

kept telling me it was worth pursuing...

Thanks to Lizzy and all you other followers

who cheered me onward with 

your encouraging comments...

Here is the reverse that uses

Lots of hand quilting for texture

Early morning deck quilting...

Pineapple Welcome is coming along.....

Here is a close up of my all time 

favorite yellow fabric--these borders are

the very last of this one...

Just such a warm, creamy yellow with the

lovely tossed roses;))))

topper and it is ready to be pinned...

I laid my "Lollipops Flowers"on top of Helga 

ready to be bound

for tomorrow's machine 

sewing stint...

This way I can't ignore or miss it, right????

It's been waiting a mighty long time to be 

finished...👀😉👀

I am on a mission this summer

 to finish up all the

"Littles" that I have hanging 

in my 

stash closet...

Tonight will be an easy bbq supper:

Hot dogs (burnt to a crisp just like

we love to eat them)--with thinly 

sliced Vidalia onions, honey mustard,

and sweet pickle relish...

Along with my handmade, oven baked

french fries prepped in EV Olive Oil with

sea salt and freshly ground black pepper...

baked at 425 for about 20 minutes...

nice and crisped...

A very simple, but favorite Summertime meal...

I will be letting her rest a bit up on the wall

before working on the back...and

choosing binding fabric...

NEXT:

I will be tackling 

My Jelly Roll Jumble;

I have begun sewing strips together :

3 sections so far...

and then I have a plan to finish

her differently...

I plan to cut vertical 10" strips and add

2.5" strips in between and turn her

into a columnar quilt piece...

I have no idea how or if this will work,

but I am going to give it a try...

P0SIES' BORDERS, et al

 

I added a small "stop border" first

and

now am contemplating the 

2nd larger one followed

by the binding in the same print

as the stop border:

I tried every green/aqua print in my stash and

they just looked too "Busy" to me;

so have settled on a solid fabric in

this lovely green..

Turning this into a real Springtime piece,

right????

Speaking of greenery...

Here is a photo of our big cedar

with what must be 

MILLIONS 

of berries adorning it this year.

the whole tree looks "frosted:

the berries are a light, white-ish blue..

We should have a lot of birds this Fall

as when the berries ripen they bring in

many birds to feed...

I received a note from Rose

about my jelly roll piece

that i really feel is just a crazy 

"jumbled up mess".

the rows are not all sewn together;

just pinned up ...

It really does not thrill me...

;((((((

DH suggests some placemats...

?????

I just don't know.... after all that work

sewing this together I hate to give up on it...

Perhaps a plain white strip between sections

and turning it into a sort of "column type"

quilt would work????

I will see what Rose has to say...

It was her pattern I tried to emulate...

Obviously I missed something in 

the reading!!! 😕😖😐

I have been working on pages in my 

"Trader Joe's Pita Crackers Box"

Junque Journal  [ TJPCBJJ ]

the past couple days--

a little at a time...

Above I added a zig-zag-stitched 

sari silk ribbon along the edge

of that half-page...

And here is the following double page spread

that has 

journaling pocket cards...

On these pages,  I used distress sprays, glitter glues, 

old photos, stamps, and on the right page pocket

[bordered with gold roses washi tape]--

I did some encaustic (wax drips) work on a

prepped index card...

That was a fun experiment--I've never

worked with dripping wax from a candle

with my little mini iron before...😊

It was fun seeing how it worked..

I made four in total...

These pages took a few 

days to put together...

and I had

such fun working on them...

Helga and I sewed 

the first row of "Posies sewn together

vertically and

machine appliqued the center circles...

Three more rows to go....;)))) then

I can put it together...

This is such a relaxing and fun

project.  I highly recommend 

Jan Patek's pattern which is still 

available on her website...

I chose not to add the stars on my version...

And I have yet to make any decisions about

adding the borders ...

I do like her narrow stop border and may

opt to also do that on mine...

The heat and humidity has finally reached us

today--as you can see from our

Ambient weather station.

This little gem sits on the top of my bookcase to the right of

where I sit in my recliner in our side tv room...

We are real "weather junkies, both my

Sweet Baboo and I, and so we are always checking on

predictions etc.  We have the app that goes along

with this on our phones, so we can always keep

 tabs on our local weather...

along with our local high and low tides....

It's the little things that make our 

lives wonderful, isn't it???

Since it is so hot today I am

cooking our supper in the  slow cooker:

....a lovely corned beef and

boiled potatoes with 

fried cabbage and 

steamed carrots...

SETTING POSIES, et al

 

I worked on off-

setting "Posies" flowers 

this morning...

Next I will be 

appliqueing the centers and

then 

sewing blocks into rows...

My latest hand quilting is 

an older small

piece I call:

"Pineapple Welcome"

I had buttonhole stitched

this pineapple in place and

will now be stitching around it...

It was a quick pinning job and then

out onto the back deck to begin

the first line of quilting...

I will be simply outlining the pineapple

with radiating lines using

some older 

Valdani variagated beige/cream

perle 8 cotton thread

I had leftover from another

project. 

I really love working on that Morris fabric

background --so soft and forgiving...

It was simply gorgeous 

out on our deck this morning--

coffee and bagels accompanied

us and then I began my quilting..

By 10 a.m. the humidity came in for

a while sending us inside...

later this afternoon the 

ocean breezes during the tide

turning kept us cool enough to 

sit out for our 

"Cocktail Hour"...

Tomorrow is forecasted to be rainy

but we shall see...

I have all 12 Posie blocks sewn...

now to decide how I want to set them..

Here is the pattern setting:

Now, I definitely  am no fan of "stars"--

cutting or sewing--- etc...so...

I may just make 1/2 width plain bars to

offset these

blocks in the background white...

[the star blocks are the same width as

the leaf blocks in the pattern]--

OR

sash them with cornerstones...

i will leave these up and "tinker" for a bit...

And in the meantime I will bind

Lollipops while I am pondering ...
