My Uncle Julian
Uncle Julian (also known affectionately as "Nev" (his last name was "Nevins"), my mother's only brother, was also my Godfather....
he was named after his Grand-mere "Julie" as was I.
He served in the South Pacific in WW2 as an Army Cook--I was only about 1 1/2 yrs old when I first met him after he arrived home;
his uniform totally scared me...I remember his picking me up and my being very afraid of this tall"stranger" with his "funny clothes"....funny the things you remember....
Every morning when I was really une petite fille, Mama would invite me into the big double bed and Papa would serve us Cafe au Lait (mine, in my special little blue cup) and she would read me Uncle Julian's letters from the South Pacific en Francaise as I spoke only French until
I was 7 yrs old.
She would say "Julie, dites-moi:
O--KI--NOW---A and I--WO JI--MA" places where he had been sent....
I wanted to preserve this memory in "My Life and Times" album....I glued
all those little background ticket pieces in place and then sewed through them.
I saw this effect on Jen Schow's video...and knew it was perfect for his picture
in uniform...this was a very time consuming process, but I like the result a lot...
I hope you are warm and cozy inside on this rain swept afternoon..
hugs, Julierose, La Blageuse ( et la scrapeuse aussi)

MEMORIES
Here is my latest scrapbooking catch-up for my "My Life and Times" album; a picture that I photocopied of my Grand'mere Rose and me (Julierose) at 2 yrs old.
We are sitting in her side yard on a sunny afternoon while having my afternoon favorite apple snack...my Grand-mere took care of me a lot of days when i was a little girl. She was a warm wonderful and caring woman...i always had fun at "Grand-mere's House".
I drew, and painted the roses--both of our favorite flowers--and leaves on cardstock and used three shades of acrylic paints from my (VERY) old stash....and chose
papers that evoked those days of yore when everything was still
fresh and new to me...
at this age I only spoke French--the language in our home...."ici on parle Francais"..
I often dream in the French of my youth....since Mom passed i have no one to speak our Canadian patois left--sad....but happy memories for sure....
I still need to put a title on this and am a little stumped as to where
and what kind of lettering to use--want to keep that old-fashioned look....
but for now this is done....
Here you can see my attempt at making roses--the important thing for me is that this memorynot be lost...
I sent a picture this to my DIL, Lindsay, and she showed it to her 4-yr old Fiona
and told her
"See, Fi, this is your Grand-mere's "Grand-mere" "
isn't that heart warming???
To me, this is what scrapbooking is all about....
Shimelle's blog has a link up today--so will be joining in. Hop over to see my Scrapbooking Idol..;--)))

hugs to you all

DAYS: 6, 7 & 8
DAYS 6 AND 7 :"...SEVEN SWANS A'SWIMMING, SIX GEESE A LAYING..."
Two lovely fabrics--my southwest collection is growing and my scanty plaids will be improved.
AND TODAY:
SEE---"EIGHT MAIDS A MILKING.."
WHAT A LOVELY TABLEMAT--it goes so well with my bowl, don't you think???
AND Here's to you, Dawn; My DH thanks you ;--))), too. Prosit!!
I am still working on my circles each day (haven't dropped out as yet...but to be honest, have thought about doing that--); and still quilting away on Steven's blocks...I have 11 done.....9 more to go.
I can only quilt on 2-3 before my eyes go wonky,....
I also am re-arranging (again,-- big surprise!! lol) my long cutting table into two parts: one for just cutting (and NOT for piling stuff on it , heh heh) and the other for my scrapbooking..
.I still have to move a lot of stuff (stuff and more stuff and those pesky "itsy-bitsy things) so that I can FIND what I have and what I need will be "to hand".
It got cold here this morning--31 degrees and very windy will a windchill of 28+/-; it'll be a
c-o-o-ld walk --betcha we'll be moving faster than usual --ya think?
hugs to you all --I will be wrapping today

AU REVOIR, MA CHERE TANTE MILDRED
The above is a scrapbook page I made a few years ago of her with a little story on the sidebar about her life. She never met a person she didn't like and befriended all. I can still see her sitting at the piano with my father playing four-handed piano and singing those old songs they so loved. We were blessed to have her as part of our family.
Here are a few more of my scrapbook pages: One of my Dad who passed away in 1997:
And here is an oldie of my Mom as a young girl on the brink of marrying Dad:
This year has held four deaths of close family members for both my husband and I.....
How did we become the OLDER GENERATION?
And here is a picture of Mom quite a few years ago:
I went and visited her this morning to tell her our sad news; we shed some tears together, but mostly recalled all the good times we all had together.
(I have been a scrapbooker for years now and have just not figured out how to scan them onto my computer to share with you. Hopefully in the future I can share some "Happy Times" pictures.)
Je me Souviens toujours, Ma Tante...(I will remember you always Ma Tante)
