I HAVE A HOLE IN MY BLUES

REALLY!!!!!! RSC15 FOR JANUARY ASKS FOR THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD BLUES;

I HAVE NO MEDIUM BLUES....THIS IS THE BEST I COULD FIND!!!! AND, AS YOU CAN SEE, THERE ARE TEALISH-BLUES IN THERE,TOO.....That astrological print (5th from the right) is the type of blue I was thinking of....

I GUESS I'VE MADE A LOT OF BLUE QUILTS--SO THESE "SORT-OF" BLUES..ARE WHAT WILL BE USED.

ALL THE REST ARE VERY DARK OR VERY LIGHT --even in my stash!!!

And I have declared 2015 as a Total No-Buy Year (stay tuned to see if  when I cave --LOL)

What can I say...it'll be different!!
So what else is new...;--000

Hugs to all of you RSC15-ers--I am off to cut some strips with GO!BABY...that's a little preview hint of what I will be making......lol

THE ONE I DIDN'T LIKE!!

REMEMBER ME??? MY MOMMY DIDN'T LIKE ME SO MUCH WHEN SHE FINISHED....
(OH MY GOSH, ANOTHER QUILT THAT TALKS TO ME...)

(I am attempting to sew these 17.5" blocks (+ or minus-- hehehe) together; these were the dark scraps and strings I made along with my Sea Glass piece which I love and am now cuddling under...)

Here is the border I am going to use...and

here is what came out to see us today--Mr. Sun--YAY and here are a few of the other scraps inside me..(I don't know why Mommy has taken such a dislike to me with all these cute scraps!!)

You know him, right? AND
are all of yours eaten up yet????
(Closing the sewing room door--and she's still talking.....)

Here at long last is:
an off market 1/4" edge piecing.......................... that FITS!!

It has been a busy time of family, grand-dog sitting, traveling in the terrible pea soup fog and rain and eating and oh, did I mention eating????Aaaaargh..

and, we are really enjoying the calm that comes AFTER CHRISTMAS.

I got lovely gifts (which I will write about in the future) -- right now is "snappy-nap" time for
les grandparents.
Hope to sew the last row of those huge (I still don't really like them much) blocks together--they are a sort of "I Spy" I guess--I can't even come up with a name--so unlike moi,.....
I hope you are having a relaxing weekend....
Hugs to you all

SEE THE  WONDERFUL LITTLE GIFT I RECEIVED IN THE MAIL TODAY FROM KAREN--
I DON'T OWN A THREAD CATCHER ( my DH will be thrilled as he says our house is covered in threads!!lol).
It's such a cute little piece-(-sorry for the dark picture--another gray and gloomy day here and raining AGAIN!!  But this put a smile on my face ;--)))

Thank you so much for your thoughtful gift, Karen.  I will think of you each time I deposit threads!

WELCOME, WINTER SOLSTICE !

                                           SLEIGH BELLS RING!

I started quilting this afternoon...got 1st half of width done before my shoulder began
complaining...I am straight (well, sort of lol) line quilting on every other row across and then the same on the length.  ;--)))

HELGA is a fantastic quilting machine!!! I cannot say enough at how smoothly and evenly
she quilts.  (Red thread on squares side and variegated green on back....yummy!!)  I am excited!!

My Monet's City is moving outward to include  suburbia-- lol--the waterways and lilies and trees:

I have it set up on my living room floor on my old sweater blocking board--trying this and that...

So far:      I first need to sew those white french writing strips on and then the rosettes...
I took photos so I can remember how it'll go together....
Now it is Tea Time....
Hugs on this last weekend of Fall...take a deep breath.....relax.....

SHE'S MAKIN' A LIST......

EVERYONE IS MAKING THEIR 2015 LISTS AND HERE IS MINE SO FAR (OPEN TO REVISION I'M SURE, AGAIN AND AGAIN...LOL):

ONE & TOP PRIORITY:  GET MY LEFT ARM/WRIST/HAND IN SHAPE TO BE ABLE TO PRACTICE MY PIANO EVERY DAY.
AS A PIANIST I AM SO MISSING MY PRACTICE TIME.

TWO: MAKE A BIG GIRL QUILT FOR WILLA--WHO BY NEXT CHRISTMAS WILL SURELY BE IN A BIG BED. I ALREADY HAVE THE FABRIC, BUT I  CANNOT SHOW IT TO YOU AS SOMEONE (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE...LOL) READS MY BLOG...

THREE; MY LIST OF WANT-TO-MAKE QUILTS;

A. LOW VOLUME LOG CABIN

B. TULA PINK SAMPLER FROM HER "CITY QUILTS" --ESPECIALLY THE 15 CROSSES......
(i HAVE NEVER MADE A SAMPLER QUILT AND WOULD LIKE TO TRY TO COORDINATE COLORS IN MY NEVER-ENDING EFFORT TO GET SOME COLOR SENSE.) (Perhaps in conjunction with RSC2015???)

C. ANOTHER SEW ON PAPER SCRAPPY STRING QUILT WITH WHAT I CALL-- AND FIND HARD TO USE-- "MODERN FABRICS" (I have joined a modern fabric club for the year (Fabric Shoppe on Etsy)  and am not planning on any--repeat A N Y other fabric purchases--(YUP--enough is waaaaay tooooo much!) I have so many fabrics crying out to be used.  we'll see how long I can hold out hah!

D.  ANOTHER POSTAGE STAMP QUILT---THIS ONE WAS SO MUCH FUN--LOVED IT...(I ordered an off-market 1/4" piecing foot that I hope will fit Helga (fingers crossed)--and that should end that conversation...lol

E.  A LIL' TWISTER QUILT....

There are about a-gazillion MORE quilts that I want to try, but these are so far the biggies....are you totally bored to death yet???

FOUR: TO BE FINISHED STUFF--
AND HERE I HAVE TO DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT THE PIECES I'VE MADE "DESERVE" TO BE FINISHED ...OR NOT...(DO YOU HAVE ISSUES LIKE THAT?)

A.  SCRAPPY BLOCKS WITH GOLD SASHINGS -- CAN'T DECIDE IF I LIKE IT...

B.   NOVEAU LADIES NEEDS BORDERS AND FINISHING

    C.  APPLIQUE BUTTERFLIES

D. ALL MY HEXAGON PROJECTS, OF COURSE.....BUT THEY ARE CONTINUING AND LONG TERM.....

E. SOME KIND OF CAT QUILT.....MAYBE D. ZIMMERMAN'S "FAT CATS"

AND THEN (sigh): VARIOUS KITS I HAVE ORDERED AND ARE SITTING IN MY FILING CABINET LIKE A BEAUTIFUL JAN PATEK BASKET QUILT....AMONG OTHER PATTERNS....

AND, (OH YES, MORE....)
I WANT TO DO SOME EMBROIDERY AND CROCHETING.....

THIS YEAR I FINISHED THREE (WELL, AM QUILTING TWO RIGHT NOW; SLEIGH BELLS AND GEORGIE PEORGIE) GOOD SIZED QUILTS AND A COUPLE TABLE RUNNERS AND MUG RUGS.

IT SEEMS TO TAKE ME A LONG TIME TO DO THINGS THESE DAYS.  BACK ISSUES AND HAND/WRIST ISSUES TAKE THEIR TOLL I GUESS.

I hope you are finding time to relax and do some stitching these last few hectic days before Christmas.....chat soon...this whole list is just for my records--skip it if you are not interested....it's okay...;---)))

And what, pray tell is on your list for the NEW YEAR???

RING THOSE SLEIGH BELLS, SANTA!

Here is the backside of Sleigh Bells Ring!  I had these Santa's leftover from way back when (A Debbie Mumm print) and this Jinny Beyer Roses border (julieROSE lol) and the green flowery  background that just seemed to all hang together....

I just have always loved these old world Santas--better than today's more modern versions.
I was SAVING them--and have decided to finally use them...

(Sorry for the blur...my camera battery is blinking "low") but there will be two rows of Santa across the backing.
Tomorrow I will sew the Red Roses borders on and then both front and back will be ready to put together...
Sunday stitching, a little gift wrapping, boiling down turkey for soup, and my darling DH is taking me out for dinner at a Pub where some of our musician friends have a gig...fun day Sunday!!

Hugs to you all--Julierose, La Blageuse .

ALMOST A FLIMSEY

Here's the bottom half AND.....
the TOP half...
ONE MORE ROW TO PIN AND SEW!!!!
My back from leaning over and pinning each and every row of blocks together
exactly (ahhh..does the word fudging ring a bell??? lol) and then throwing the rows over my left shoulder (I also got a pin caught in my earring doing this and nearly pulled my ear lobe off!!  ACK...oh the trials and tribulations!!)
and trying to match the edge to the new little sewing sticky ridge that I added  (what I think is...;--)) a scant 1/4" from my needle..... and with the regular foot in place--guiding it through Helga.  She is a recalcitrant gal...BUT I think it went pretty well--I am not going to use that wobbly plastic foot anymore! (Did I tell you that I cancelled my 1/4" foot order after talking to the "Sewingpartsonline" company and their telling me they have NO IDEA when or IF they will get one???Enough of this AGITA!) I will make what I have WORK--
and I promise no more 1/4" whining!!  Honest--or I hope so!!

hugs to all of you in this busy Holiday Season--I hope you are finding the time to get some (relaxing???? Huh, relax, who moi???) sewing in...Julierose, La Blaguese (almost done-euse)

EDGINESS

Sleigh Bells Ring has grown up a bit since I last posted.  I now have four rows of 6x6 blocks (3 across and four down) sewed horizontally and I've added the off whites in a double row on each long side.

My whole week has been about edges (more about this further on....)

Monsieur "Partridge in his Pear Tree"  ;--))

I love this rose square ;--)))

Well, folks----this journey has been an eye-opener; I have collected mini charm squares the past year and cut some with my GO!BABY (go!! lol) and each company's 2.5" square is sized differently!  Who knew?!  Pas Moi!!

So this is an exercise in matching up for sure (especially as I am --oh no, not this AGAIN??--so 1/4" challenged--and for those of you still interested [anyone??] my 1/4" foot has STILL not arrived!! I ordered it from "sewforless" on October 6th!!!!--it should be sew-less!! humpfff!).

Hey Dawn--see your fabrics that you so (sew) kindly gifted me?  The Dancin' snowmen and my favorite angels--a part of you will be in my quilt...thanks again...hugs....

And now for a different kind of "EDGINESS":

It doesn't look like much, but I added all those black hexies over Thanksgiving (and I am thankful for finishing those! 3 sides to fit in each)
 and also on this side:

those aqua-ish ones on the left--my piece now has two sides ziggy-zaggy and two sides with 1/2 hexagon holes in it!

My next step is to make Monsieur Monet's Water Lilies floating and to add  the French Writing....and another puzzle to be solved is born...I do like the city buildings though...

Today I hope to sew more squares on 1/4" challenged Helga--oops--sorry--I won't go down that road rant again!
But........... I have to rest my hand from hexagon stitching as it is sore...

I hope you have a sew-full weekend...

hugs, Julierose, La Blageus (Edgi-euse)

IT'S A RAINY AFTERNOON

AND HERE IS LAST NIGHT'S SKY ON FIRE.....

JUST AS OUR SUN SET...

Here is Sleigh Bells Ring so far......coming along and I have three more of the red and green blocks set up here

this one is partially sewn into strips and these two are just set up for later on

You can see my little box of 2.5 " squares on the side there....

And I also took the time to work on my lozenges quilt that I have named : "Jouzai"
which translated means lozenges in Japanese...
I have this pile done

And working on these:

Helga is cooperating very well on these--the little 1/4" foot lifts up just enough to squeeze the next block underneath and is clear so I can sew to the right of the drawn line just a tad--(Thanks Bonnie Hunter for that tip!) .

And so,  my Thanksgiving Eve Day has been filled with packing to go to my daughter's tomorrow for our family get together, some reading, the ubiquitous laundry (boo hiss!!), some crossword puzzling and generally taking it easy.

I am sending out my wishes to you and yours for a wonderful Thanksgiving Day
Hugs, Julierose,

SUNDAY HEXAGON PUZZLE

What do you do when all the edges turn out just a little bit differently???? Well, I did have Monet's City all laid out with those blue

and French Writing hexagons
all laid out---BUT...somehow it just didn't look right to me....so I put them all back into their little boxes and cut up some of these dark prints to fill in....
they are not the same fabric, but I think they will finish off the rows so that I can then figure out how to proceed--I want to set up the center on point and fill in the resulting triangles with rosettes that will be "lilies" like in Monet's gardens....
AND why oh why didn't I draw up a "PLAN"????

Well, today my slow stitching will be basting these babies to audition....
I will be hooking up with Kathy's SLOW STITCHING SUNDAY
See you over there...hugs to all Julierose, La Blageuse (puzzle-euse)

ON A COLD, GREY SUNDAY

A cup of "Joe" and a few of these going on this morning.  My little hexagon sewing kit sits on my lap, and I am slowly basting those blue hexies over their freezer papers. I am now able to baste about 10 before I "feel" it.  the Comfort Cool hand wrap helps me a lot.

In my mind I am wandering through the hills and valleys of Hexagonia, singing "I Love to go a-wandering, along the mountain track; and as I go I love to sling my backpack on my back!"  Backpack full of what else?? Hexagons , of course...songs for all occasions is our watchword around here.  Sometimes I think our life is like a comic opera..... LOL!!!

Later, this morning we are taking a jaunt out to our local Benny's --I need one of those blue speckled small roasting pans--I totally wore out my first one--it didn't owe me a thing--49 years of good service!

I am making pot roast, mashed potatoes with gravy and a salad for dinner tonight . I have also been craving pumpkin pie--I guess I am more than ready for Turkey Day..

.What are you making for  your Sunday dinner???

Hugs to all , enjoy your day, Julierose, La Blageuse

GEORGIE'S OFF THE WALL

And here he is all layered up and ready for pin basting--["And about time, too!" grumble grumble--] He was stretching this way and that and I had to smooth him out quite a few times--why doesn't that surprise me?  My back is done for the day after crawling around on the floor to lay this out.  Right now it is up on my dining table on my blocking mat (originally used to block my knitted sweaters) where I hope to begin pin basting tomorrow.

And now, Pride of Place on my design wall is my Sleigh Bells Ring WIP.

It's coming along--I finished another block this morning after dealing with "the grumbler" [and you KNOW who that is!! lol].

As I look at this, I am thinking that I will be making it a whole lot bigger than I first thought--I am really enjoying putting these together.

(Dawn, you should be spotting some of your fabric in these blocks--they fit right in--merci beaucoup mon amie!)

One thing I learned is that my feed dogs on Helga are Waaaay too far apart when the plastic 1/4" footsie is on; really, only one feed dog is pulling the material through and therefore: pulling to the left.  Aaaargh.

I have upped the presser foot pressure a bit to try to compensate for this, but it is still a battle of "feed dog vs. Julierose"!!  But am doing the best I can with what I have (meanwhile the metal 1/4" foot is somewhere on the Atlantic Ocean being rowed over by Viking longboat, I think--I ordered it Oct 6th!!  I hope they don't drop it overboard!  Seriously--how could it take this LONG??).

Anyone have any suggestions how to overcome this problem or dealt with it??

                                         H E L P!!

I may have to resurrect my old Pfaff Varimatic and give it another chance.  I had it overhauled at my LQS and it started jamming [something about the timing he said!]about one week after--and I was minus $85!!).
Maybe resting under my cutting table made Heidi (that's the Pfaff) re-think jamming on me??? Like DH says put it away for a while and then take it out again and see....a good weekend project for me.

I also sewed up some more squares to make triple 9-patches this morning...
will try to get some cutting in tomorrow--but will have to do them a little at a time....
We have been invited to lunch with some musician friends of ours tomorrow, so hopefully DH will be feeling well enough to go.

Hugs to you all --and come and see my latest work on Monet's City at Hexagon Alley .

SUNDAY IN HEXAGONIA

Here's where I was this afternoon-- IN HEXAGONIA HEAVEN--using my new GO!BABY die for cutting fabric AND paper hexagons.  I lost count as to just how many I cut in 45 minutes.

This die is amazing--(I am not in the pay of Accuquilt either--just sayin') ; it cuts SIX layers of fabric on the lower four shapes --so 24 in only ONE pass AND TWO layers of paper or cardboard in that same pass yielding 8 paper backings.

I used 8.5" x 11" freezer paper and folded it in quarters to get 4 sets of double papers.

I am in love with this die!  No threads to snip off--I did a generous accordion fold of 6" fabric to cover the hexagons.
and now I have all of these perfectly cut hexies to add to my Monet's City outskirts--
the fabric (tan/black )--is french script and the blues are some batiks and some hand dyes representing the waterways where those gorgeous waterlilies he painted grew.

See how you get that perfect 1/4" (YAYA!!) allowance to fold over and either baste or use the spray starch method..I have always basted them...but may try that spray starch on a few.

This is how I attach the freezer papers--easy peasy...

(Excuse my old ironing board cover )--I line them up and just iron over 5-6 at a time....

then I can sit and watch tv with my sweetie at night and baste away...

I haven't decided how to add these as yet to my main piece--but will lay them out this week..

There is no way with my hand/wrist and shoulder problems I could have C U T  OUT  all these pieces.  So, for me, the cost of the die is really worth every penny.

And so another gray day passes by us and soon we will be in Mid-November....hugs to you all--

from
Julierose, La Blageuse P.S.  DH says"Someday I will hear a muffled sound from your sewing room and I will have to come in and rescue you from those stacks of hexagons that have taken over!!  Hahaha....
