OLDEN ROSES- A special quilt

My Spring covering for our
spare room bed...

This quilt was made by my
Grand-mere and
appliqued and embroidered
by my Mom and her sister...
in

and,

Here are the three embroidered colorways...

and

and
I just love the feel of this
well-loved quilt...

Grand-mere did the Baptist Fan quilting
on her chair frame...

Can you see the Baptist Fan quilting???

;))))

One of my two treasured old quilts
from my Grand-mere...
I had this on my twin bed
while I was growing up...

The colors have stayed pretty bright...
despite many many washings...

I love taking this out and airing it and
seeing it as I walk by
the room...πŸ’πŸ’πŸ’

BAG O'BITS, et al

I have a lot of these bags
of bits and pieces
taking up space in my closet....
So,
Today I took out the yellows,
and
I am making these....

On my "bits" of
cut-off telephone
pages...
long strips...
leaving the papers on for now...

[I will tear off the papers
when I decide what to
make of them...]

This week I made these colors:

Multi, blues, and reds...

Just 3-4 per day...
and
at the same time,
culling out those pieces that
 I will not use.

I am not emptying the
bags at one sitting,
but making a dent...
AND...
STRANGELY,

I don't know how I
ended up with
SO MANY
YELLOWS!!

***********************
I am not calling this a new project...
just a way to do some mindless
sewing and to try to
"use it up" to free up more
space for my growing stash...
πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—

I am calling the rest of my year
"No Buy"
but....
We shall see how that goes...
My track record is not so
good --I think the
longest I went was
four months a few years
ago...
Wish me luck--
πŸ˜€πŸ˜‚πŸ˜
😷😷

********************
Tonight I have prepared
a meatloaf,
peeled potatoes
and plan on grilled corn...
for our dinner.

Then for our weekend treat--
I made a cherry pie...
I haven't done one of those
in a really long time...
πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹
***********************
We are having new carpet installed
in our tv room, so I am sitting
in the midst
of all the
stuff and furniture we hauled
into the living room...

I say "we"-- but Tom did most of
the heavy pieces and I only moved
the lighter items out...

Still and all my shoulder
did get a bit sore...
so this will be a resting weekend...

I hope your weekend will prove to
be a wonderful one...
😷😷😷
Stay safe still...

THE BERRY THIEF, et al

"It's the Berries!!"
;000
I found them very difficult...
But, my Berry Thief
applique
is done...

This is my first real applique
 from start to
finish...

I decided to add
the "thief's" berry as
I could just visualize
him making away
with those luscious
berries.
How could he resist???
:)))

Now to trim it up and add
some borders...

I truly surprised myself
in that
I really enjoyed
this whole process...

**********************
GOOD NEWS!!
:)))
Our granddaughter,
Cassidy,
is back home from her
first 2 years of
college at
Clemson.
YAY!!

We are so thrilled and
relieved
that she is back up here
with us...

She will be transferring to
a local college to
finish out her degree...

AND...
She has an appointment
for her first Covid shot
tomorrow...

Things are looking up...

************************
I have chosen this fabric to
alternate with my
x-stitched
butterflies

I love how it looks with
my butterflies...

And aren't those little
fairies holding the bunches
of berries
just so cute???

I guess this post is
about
"The Berries"
;)))

************************
I hope the coming week will
be a good one for you
Stay safe

HAPPY MAIL, et al

Mail Call ;)))
From Lizzy
@
"Gone To The Beach"

OOOHHH...
The aroma of
Lavender
is amazing!

Two beautiful heart
sachets..
in that lovely sea blue batik
πŸ’œπŸ’œ

What a pretty package...
:)))
Her little enclosure has a
tiny shell and piece of sea glassπŸ’—
Now....
I will have to find
a pretty basket,
and
add my shells
and
my sea glass
with the hearts...
Thank you,
Lizzy!!
Aren't they just gorgeous???

And look
πŸ‘€πŸ‘€
she enclosed
a little
early birthday bonus:

An applique with cross stitch
pattern...

I just love it...
πŸ’πŸ’πŸ’πŸ’
Thank you, sweet friend...
;)))

**********************

Here is my progress on
my little applique quilt.

I worked on the little bird-
cherry-thief last night...;))
(with its fantasy wing)
What fun!!

Here is Jan Patek's
booklet  [above]
where I found
this cute pattern.
[I just love her stuff]

I decided that since my stash
 in no way has fabrics
like hers,
I would try using what I
had on hand...

I am truly enjoying this slow,
 meticulous stitching..
(Thanks Lizzy for your
applique advice:
"..take small, little bites
when you applique.")

**********************
Tonight's dinner
will be  Tom's Chili,
sour cream topping
and "fritos" for dipping--
with a side tossed salad...

**********************
I hope your weekend is a good one
Hugs,
Julierose, La Blageuse

WEDNESDAY WONDERING

Seeing as any rotary work
will be on hold for a while
until my shoulder blade
recovers (!!!)......

I began to set up an
applique basket
using a Jan Patek pattern
[from "Say It With Flowers"],
and
I am using some of her
 latest fabrics...

The basket and the stem fabrics
are from my own older stashed fabrics.

&&&&

I have all the pattern pieces traced
(they show white in this picture
with the tentatively chosen
fabrics mocked up near them);

and I will hopefully set up
the flowers tomorrow;
leaving the leaves and Mr. Bird
[still not sure of what fabric for him]
until the next day...

I am thinking that instead of those
circle berries over on the left
facing stem, I may do
little yo-yos instead...
I love how vintage they look...
and perhaps a bit of darker orange
for a couple of them to pick
up that stripe in my basket fabric..

*****************************
I am really new to applique and was going to try
to do needleturn once more, but
chickened out πŸ˜΅πŸ™ˆ
and instead--
I am preparing
my pieces before I applique them...

I hope this mid-week finds you all well,

OLD ITALIAN BLOCKS

My "trial-making" of some
(new-to-me)
Old Italian blocks...

During my room/stash
reorganization
I came across these
sort of Repro fabrics
and
decided to give these a try...
they are really a fun block
to make.

I would also like to try them
in my newly sorted
batiks...

**************************
Here is what I am
currently reading;
the latest
"Peculiar Crimes Unit"
entry.
I find this series fascinating
if a little strange....
but they do keep my interest
all the way to the end....

*********************
I also un-earthed these blocks
from a while ago...

I recall that I said I didn't like
them very much at that time.

Now, they have grown on me
while they were stashed away
(marinating?)

So, another project to be finished
has surfaced...😡

**********************
It is a Rainy Sunday here
so, a good hand work day...

Will take out my
hexagons and
work on them...

THURSDAY SMALL SEWING

Front and reverse of
my table topper
to be...

Using my hand dyed
center flower
along with
a small piece of Asian
fabric on
either side and
leftover low volume
floral;

and, here,
using my mini charms again
along with that
leftover Asian fabric
and a small cut of the
darker gray
↴↴↴↴↴

I don't know now which
I like better;)))

But...I am
Using up small pieces
for
EARTH DAY
πŸ‘΅πŸ˜
****************
Tomorrow I will
layer and then
pin for hand
quilting...

MID-WEEK

One more row to
pin and sew
:)))

************************
Start of a hand-dyed
project...

*******************************\
Middle of Girl With Braids...
Isn't she pretty??
I am really enjoying
the practice of
using my multi-placer
(more than one diamond at a time)
on her...
*****************************
And look what my son, Jeff, brought me
last Sunday
when he and his family
visited for the first time since
 the pandemic began
They are so pretty;
Situated right near my seat
in our tv room

I love this one with the
small green stripe...

*************************

Here is what the grandgirls were
doing that day

Fiona--
working it:)))

Gosh they grew so much since
we last saw them...
Fiona will be 10 this coming October
Double digits already!!

We had a lovely visit--so
wonderful to sit and catch up...

Fi and Willa
We love you
πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–
*************************
Today I will be doing the weekly food
run to the Big Y;

Tonight will be "breakfast for supper"
so easy-peasy...

Hugs mid-week

HOUSE BLOCKS, et al

My 2nd house block try.....
This must be an "older"
house as the
window has warped ;0000

But I do like the door and window
in the same fabric...

Neighbors can be
so different!!

*****************************

Here are two of my Crazy Quilt
blocks that I had
begun embellishing
a couple years ago...
↧↧↧↧
I had made 6 of these
into this wall hanging
below
which now graces my
small front hallway.

Here are some of the ladies
that grace this one:

I am planning on working on
the last  6 over
this coming Summer...
they will be my new hand project...

*********************
Raining and cold and windy
here today....

I did my weekly grocery
shopping early this
morning...
AND...
Tonight we will have a lighter type
dinner=
Stuffed clams and
a salad...
Sooo,
Maybe someone I know
will make us popcorn for
a tv snack this evening--
one can only hope...πŸ‘§

****************************
I hope your upcoming weekend will
be a productive one...
I will be sewing red/white
squares together..
