MELANGE, et al

ZIpper blocks will be named from now on

"MELANGE"

Above ↑↑↑↑ is the dictionary definition
of Melange. [click to enlarge]

In our French Aunts' households, when I
was growing up, every week they
would gather the bits and pieces of
leftovers, not wanting or affording to
waste food, and put together
wonderful soups...
When I was visiting,
"What's for dinner?" I would ask---
"Melange Soup" would be the answer.

and I would so look forward to our meal...

And I think that
Today's version might be called:

"Everything but the kitchen soup--soup!"

At any rate, I think of that when I look at
my zipper blocks all together on the wall--
a total mixture of styles and types
of fabrics....
This is not the final order, of course,
But here are the latest "makes"

These two
and this one below

I first saw these made into a quilt
wherein-- she also showed her
cousin Kim's  finished zipper quilt
and her own quilts
AND
I saw how her
 Kim's idea of adding
a lot of yellow
made her quilt
 glow with that color...
I am going forward for my
quilt with that idea in mind.

[Hope that's ok Cathy ???;00]

So, today

I have 4 yellow sets ready
to be sewn and I will see how
they appear in my grouping...

******************************
I hope you are all enjoying these
last few days of Summer..

It is hard for me to believe
that my granddaughter, Fiona,
began Middle School today !!!!
and
that my twin grandsons
entered their Sophomore
year in college!!!!

Y I K E S

I am an "Old One" for sure...

ZIPPING ALONG, PEARS OJOS, et al

My latest Zipper block...
The last of the Cherries
fabric that I have been
hoarding....💓

Since
I was able to do some cutting
today, I set these four
zipper blocks up--
[some old  and some new fabrics...]
All ready to sew--I am enjoying
sewing these together...

I have no idea how they will all
"go" together--
Maybe just higgeldy-piggeldy??
(In my usual casual way?)

⇊⇊

And
this one-- beside my machine...
for tomorrow' s sewing...
is this old, old favorite fabric
that a friend, now long gone
swapped with me ....
;))))
I've been sewing one a day--but
I may try to stretch to two--
depends on
Le Dos (the back!!).

********************
Meantime, on the hand quilting front:
PEARS OJOS
⇣⇣⇣
I have finished the 3 large central
blocks..YAY!!
:)))
[click to enlarge--I don't know if you
can see them clearly?]

I will begin on the outer
 side strip blocks this evening...

Here is a picture of the back where
the quilting may be easier to see...
👀👀👀👀
I really like this
basket fabric a lot;
and the quilting really makes it look
vintage, all pulled in like that.
Lots of texture...

*********************
FYI
This is for Cathy ;)))

On the LG Fridge compressor and
circuit board early deaths:

💀💀❤❤❤

We are in negotiations with LG--
they said they would get back to us
in the next 24 hrs about some kind
of reimbursement for
our 4 yr-3mo. old
LG!!
(fingers crossed)

And we are also awaiting the
delivery of our new
Whirlpool side-by-side fridge
in about
30 minutes...

WINTER VILLAGE PAGE CHANGES

From this↑↑↑

TO....this
↓↓↓

I just could not get my head
around those birds above--
I really love how they look
in and of themselves, but as a part
of this page base I found it hard
to connect the two halves
So
they have
flown away to come back
another day ;))))

Instead,
I came across this  little strip
of an older "Silent Night" music fabric
in my "BIG BAG of scraps,
and I've added a dash of
red and green fabric for my
corners...

So a semi-new base to work on.
I will be stitching
on this until September 1st when
the new prompt comes out..

I also need to add a Tab--
which is the challenge
this month.
I am working on an
idea for that...💁💫🔍🔮

SAD, SADDER, SADDEST!!

See, I look brand new! Not a scratch!
But, but,
but
I am deader than a doornail!!
💀💀💀
Only five years old...and my compressor
went and the electronic board is
also gone!!

SO,
We need a new fridge,,,;000

The repair person recommended
Maytag or Whirlpool as he said
the LG's compressors are all
plastic and he's seen a whole
lot just go after 4-5 yrs...!!

Tom is out looking around as
I cannot go and just stand
as yet...my legs are getting
stronger, but not that good as yet...

I totally
trust him to choose us a
fridge if any are available..
After all.......
He chose our:
 new dishwasher and stove
and clothes dryer.....

they all had to be replaced
in the past year...
👹👺👾👿
Just too, too much...

Appliances are not made like they used to be...
Talk about built in obsolescence.!!!

************************************
Okay enough of THAT  debacle!!!!

I added two more
Zipper blocks to my
batik collection

Bottom left and Bottom right...
this group will be all batiks....with
solids and hand dyed solids...

And************************
I finished my:
Winter Village page
Snow is just starting to fall in my mountain
village....
[click]
;)))))
***************************
Now to embellish my Christmas Village
below:
I have to give this some thought...
I am still wondering about the
two bird panel on the right???
A whole lot of that green....????

But, really, I cannot think right now...
YA THINK?????

We are so happy that Tom found this little
upright, back-up fridge--
It looks like we will be needing it
for a while....

and so it goes,
never a dull moment lately
it seems...

NEW DECOR--A SAD TALE OF WOE

Our new dining room decor....And here's that
"Sad Tale of Woe"
↡↡↡↡↡
Yesterday afternoon at 4:30
we opened our big LG refrigerator to
melting ice cream and food not cold at all!!
{It is only 5 years old}
😧😡😠😱

The fridge had obviously stopped working for quite
a while; and we had had no reason to
open the door after lunch time...

AND
So everything had warmed up to 67 degrees
by the time we noticed it had shut down...
SO
We called and called and called some
more--but no one could get here until,
they said,
MAYBE
NEXT Thursday
at the earliest!!!!
and,
by that time last evening,
 most places
had closed for the day--of course!!
S I G H...

At 7 pm, after not having gotten any kind of
answers, Tom went out to Costco and
got us this mini fridge to tide us over.
And plugged it in to cool down overnight...

{There were no little dorm room
fridges available as most colleges
are going or have gone back into
session--
and so he got us this
bigger one}

Hence the NEW DECOR for a while...
;0000

I am thankful that he could find
this one for us...
;)))
(there-- some good news, right?)

**************************

We are totally gob-smacked👽👿👺--
that we have had to throw out
ALL
 of our food --
[except for things like
bread, lettuce and two
tomatoes--whoopee!!].

Early this morning, we emptied
the entire spoiled
contents of the fridge and
the freezer!! $$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!!

I went to the grocery early this morning
[while Tom continued his search
on the phone and computer for
a repairman...].

I got just a  few things
to tide us over--

The good news is that
Tom finally got a repair
person who will be
coming on Monday!!

FILE UNDER;
"You just never know"!!!

******************************
We are recuperating
with our coffees now,
and trying to figure
out what to have for supper...

We do have an auxiliary freezer
in our laundry room that we
had just bought a couple
months ago in case of hurrican
power outages --so there are
some frozen meats in there we can
have over the weekend...

CHRISTMAS and WINTER VILLAGES, et al

My Christmas Village ( prompt):
I've  basted this page  down.

I will be adding a lot more embroidery
on this page...snowflakes
and such....
Again I used  some of the
Jason Yenter fabric for that
Village scene...
and some cute little
faux needlepoint birds
on the bare winter branches...

I have to have a think about what to add in..

***************************

AND
Here is the background I wove
as the base for the
Winter Village
after I realized that those longer
blue strips could become
little Mountain houses...

Here they all are just pinned into place...

Today I basted everything down...
Little mountain houses--
free-cut from my tiniest scraps...
for roofs,
doors, and windows...

Very wonky indeed...😄
I think
those Winter winds have blown
them about a lot ;)))

I will be outlining the houses and
adding snow-ey lace bits
and perhaps some
stitched icicles..
and snowflakes of some sort...

Maybe some kind of wreath...
This still needs quite a bit of
embroidery also..

*************************
Last weekend I stitched some more
zipper blocks using more cut-offs and
leftovers...
These two are using batiks...
[Can you see Mrs. Fish?]

I am not trying to match up anything,
just using what comes to hand as
I weed out my bigger scrap
pieces...

I love this "oranges" print and have it
in a mauve colorway too...
And

To illustrate just scrappiness
these three....

{Can you find the mistake??
Who was it who said:
 "It it's too short
add something,
 if it's too long,
cut it off" !!!!!}

One of my best quilting rules...

I want to make some lighter blocks now
to add to the mixture..

This is what I have been making
in my 15 minute segments
:)))))

La Blageuse

MONDAY'S SMALL UFO WALL

I unearthed these blocks from my
"Small UFO Drawer" this morning.

When you haven't been in your sewing room
for over 1 and 1/2 years you kinda
forget what you had in mind...👀😢

And if you didn't put notes on any
of them, you have to wonder what
you had in mind?????

I've decided to just pick up these projects
and go with whatever looks
them or What I was going
to make (no note !!).

I am thinking I would like the
purple one in the middle now...
(S I G H )
SO
Mr. Ribbit will be visiting...

[I actually really like this pattern
a lot...this has possibilites...]

 *************************
and then

These are not yet sewn--I do
recall they were to feature at the
bottom of one of my big quilts,
but didn't make it into the scheme.

I will see if I can figure out
how to
sew these together tomorrow...
should I add some spacers??

**********************************
I don't even like this strip of squares
much--
looks like just a
mish-mash of leftovers...

We shall see--this one will need
some thought...perhaps
just more leftover 2.5" sqs...??
Dolly quilt backs???

************************
These are start of a little hourglass log cabin!!
AND they need trimming;
I must have used
the long strip method...

Why oh why didn't I mark what I had
in mind??????

and
****************************
↴↴↴↴
ORANGES
They started out last Friday as
62 two-patches...

One and one-half inchies that
I am sewing into 16 patches...
***************************************
I have a few other "just singles" that
I cannot deal with right now...
👹👿💀

Picking up where you left off after
a long time away without any
guide as to what you were
planning is tiring!!!!!

This was enough for
one mornings work...

All in all, not very exciting are they?

Perhaps they will grow on me;

or maybe you folks have some ideas...??
