Our new dining room decor....And here's that
"Sad Tale of Woe"

Yesterday afternoon at 4:30
we opened our big LG refrigerator to
melting ice cream and food not cold at all!!
{It is only 5 years old}
😧😡😠😱
The fridge had obviously stopped working for quite
a while; and we had had no reason to
open the door after lunch time...
AND
So everything had warmed up to 67 degrees
by the time we noticed it had shut down...
SO
We called and called and called some
more--but no one could get here until,
they said,
MAYBE
NEXT Thursday
at the earliest!!!!
and,
by that time last evening,
most places
had closed for the day--of course!!
S I G H...
At 7 pm, after not having gotten any kind of
answers, Tom went out to Costco and
got us this mini fridge to tide us over.
And plugged it in to cool down overnight...
{There were no little dorm room
fridges available as most colleges
are going or have gone back into
session--
and so he got us this
bigger one}
Hence the NEW DECOR for a while...

I am thankful that he could find
this one for us...
;)))
(there-- some good news, right?)

We are totally gob-smacked👽👿👺--
that we have had to throw out
ALL
of our food --
[except for things like
bread, lettuce and two
tomatoes--whoopee!!].
Early this morning, we emptied
the entire spoiled
contents of the fridge and
the freezer!! $$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!!
I went to the grocery early this morning
[while Tom continued his search
on the phone and computer for
a repairman...].
I got just a few things
to tide us over--
The good news is that
Tom finally got a repair
person who will be
coming on Monday!!

We are recuperating
with our coffees now,
and trying to figure
out what to have for supper...
We do have an auxiliary freezer
in our laundry room that we
had just bought a couple
months ago in case of hurrican
power outages --so there are
some frozen meats in there we can
have over the weekend...

Sadly, failures rarely happen at a good time. Soon you will wonder how you ever existed without your new little fridge!
ReplyDeleteAnd to think we just got a new LG frig two weeks ago. Very thankful that we bought the extended warranty. Put the 22 year old Amana in the garage and it's still happily chugging along. Hope yours can be repaired soon.
ReplyDeleteOh how awful. All that food wasted and spoiled, so much work.Usually fridges stay cold for longer? My parents always had two fridges, plus a big freezer. The garage one was for daddy's beer/ ice but a good backup. I do not have that much space tho.

Hope the repair or replace is quick! Tom is such a blessing, too.

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness what a mess. It's soooo expensive to start over with fridge and freezer food.... let alone the cost of your emergency fridge, and fridge repair!!

ReplyDeleteWe got a new refrigerator a few years ago and the installer said we'll be lucky if it lasts 5 years! They don't make them like they used to. So glad you got that small frig to tide you over. We're a throwaway society and it's expensive!

ReplyDeleteOh no! I do know that it is sometimes hard to get any repairmen any more. I am so sorry that you had to throw away so much food. I hope you can get the fridge fixed. They just don't make them to last any more.

ReplyDeleteIt must have been very dispiriting to deal with all the spoiled food. I hope whatever went wrong can be repaired, and you are not up for a whole new big fridge as well.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! That's not fun whatsoever, but it's fortunate that your DH was able to find a small alternative that you can use while you wait (and wait) for a repair. No doubt you'll find that little fridge to be quite handy later on, I know we like ours.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of fridges - ours is one we brought with us when we moved into the apartment and has the freezer on the bottom which we love. Unfortunately a new fridge will have to come from the apartment 'people' and we noticed today that the new fridge going in across the hall is the old style with the freezer on the top. Stainless steel though. We're tall people and I don't relish the having to get down on my hands and knees to find what's in the back of the bottom shelf of the fridge. I truly don't know why they continue to manufacture them that way.
These new appliances are not built to last, unfortunately. Hopefully yours can be repaired without breaking the bank even more. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteOh man, what a colossal PITA. After only five years?!? We have a backup freezer too, and a dorm ‘frig in Bruce’s workshop. But why don’t they go out in the winter, when you could just put the contents outside in a Coleman ice chest?

ReplyDeleteOh, how sad, on so many levels, especially the expense of losing the food, having to buy a new refrigerator (even though it's small and temporary), having someone come to fix it. Thank goodness someone can come on Monday!
ReplyDeleteI can so totally identify with appliance problems. We had to replace both a dishwasher and an oven this year.
I hope that's the end of appliance problems for a long time!
So sorry for your fridge woes. Good thing you could get a backup for the time being. They don't make anything like they used to. My sister has my Dad's 30 year old fridge still working.

ReplyDeleteWow, what a disaster! I am really surprised it took less than 3 hours to melt everything- they should have good seals.... you were lucky to get a small fridge as those are also on backorder because of shipping issues.
ReplyDeleteOur 3 year old dishwasher (Kitchenaid/Westinghouse) just died one night while we were sleeping and I was so glad we got the warranty. But we went through 3 different appliance repair shops and over 10 days before someone got here. And then 2 showed up with the same opinion (they thought it was the motor) but they had to go through warranty company. The warranty people said we will refund and you can buy your own. But prices have gone up incredibly!! Hubby, who is clever about these things, found the part online, ordered it, two days later he'd fixed it, and we saved money on the whole deal. Just crazy! (Sorry for long story.)
Catching up on your recent posts today! I always enjoy seeing what you're working on - the pretty blocks and hand-stitched pages for the book. Oh no on the fridge/freezer - so awful to lose all that food. I hope it's not long before the new one arrives.

ReplyDeleteSad tale of woe indeed. Glad you can make do until repairs happen. After our washer we had over 30 years gave out we had two that lasted about five years and then the electronics gave out and they always said it was cheaper to buy new than repair. So now I have had a wringer washer for several years. There's nothing to give out on that!
