ANOTHER SMALL FINISH

I was able to utilize the leftover
binding from Willa's quilt for
my table topper;))
So this makes 3 small finishes for January...
[sorry for the dark pix--cloudy again!!]
👌👋👍
YAY ME!!
Here is the reverse of
"I've Never Been To Paris"

I've been hoarding this large
flowery piece for a while now...
It almost fit perfectly--just had to add
a bit on either side...
This table topper is now all
machine stitched along
either side of the long straight seams...

*******************

Next up for my own
UFO challenge in 2023
IS:
"Sunny Days"
It is pretty big,  so I will
tie this one

Here is a close up of that
lovely watercolor print
The top part of Ojos are
lighter blues and yellows and
the lower section is rich, deeper
blues and bright yellows...
Just like the shifting skies on
a Summer Beach...
I managed to use cut offs
to separate the sections on this one.

**********************
Now for a couple days' rest....
{and perhaps an afternoon nap!!}

UFO: "I'VE NEVER BEEN TO PARIS"

This is an older UFO-- a table runner..
It has many scenes from France and
Paris in bits of leftover fabrics...
All layered and ready to be pin basted...
The  3rd OJOS down contains a
charming French girl cycling...

Here are some of the charming scenes
along the sides:
↶↶↶↶
These are all on either side of the
central blue-ish OJOS

I thought the strip below this scne
 looked like
watery waves...;)))

A lovely windmill --
Could this be Arles???↑↑

A lovely rural scene...
I really recall enjoying making
 the long side strips
sewn on muslin strips; I began in the
centers and worked up and down
placing the French countryside scenes
here and there...what fun😊
And
I used up a whole lot of very old
fabric from my early
quilting
days...
I think this one will be hand quilted:
{with a few vertical and
horizontal holding
lines done on the machine}
********************
I still have a whole lot of
smaller project UFO's in
various stages of finish.

This one called my name
today and it is ready for
pin basting on my dining table
sweater blocking mat...
*******************
The sun is actually out
this morning again--
yesterday it lasted until
noontime and then those
clouds massed in from
over the ocean...
AND
It is 44 degrees...
N I C E !!

TWO JANUARY FINISHES, et al

Fiona's reading quilt,
bound and labeled
below↶↶↶↶

AND
Willa's reading quilt
and her label
↧↧↧↧
I used their favorite colors
for the borders and bindings.
I thought this fabric was really
cute for the labels...;)))

**************************
I have also been working
on my "Down the Garden Path";
and I have added stitching along the
rocks on the path and
some beading on the
turquoise sari ribbon.
↡↡↡↡
I am working my way down the
fabric getting background patches
sewn down.

Here is a lovely scrap that I
coffee dyed along the right side that
I  used the buttonhole stitch on...
varying the width....

This is a leftover from my
Crazy quilt that was
originally all white...

We get our next prompt on the
1st Wednesday in February.
I will continue to outline the rocks on
my path and to sew it down.

I think you can see the stitching here...
I still have a lot of background edges
to be anchored down...but
I don't want to add much more
until get the next prompts...

**********************
We actually got to see the sun shine
for about 3 hours today, but the clouds
continue to come in and the wind
is whipping up this afternoon...

DOWN THE GARDEN PATH, et al

This week,
I added a little stone wall and
the garden gate--
it is an old gate
and therefor, a bit wonky--
;)))
with grasses and
little florets on either side...

I used my Inktense Pencils to
dye a bit of green background
for the grasses...

***********************
This afternoon I cut and sewed
binding strips for both
Crumb quilts
↶↶↶↶
the next step will be to
iron them in half;
then I will trim up the two
quilts for binding.

I used leftover border fabrics
alternating with raspberry for
Fiona's and used a light blue
for the alternate in Willa's.

I would like to get these finished
by the end of January---
but It all depends on how
my back reacts...
👿

**********************
After walking two days in a row,
I took today off to rest my back...
And
It has been another dark and gray
and rainy
day here...
I am hoping to
see the sun tomorrow...
but not holding my breath...😞

QUILTING and DOWN THE GARDEN PATH

I just did straight line vertical quilting
on Willa's lap quilty..
after setting up my machine and
the quilting I had to take a
couple days off...
before tackling Fiona's quilt...

**********************

Here is my Down the Garden Path snippet
roll in progress.
I have the base pretty well covered
and did the first prompt
which was "Wildflowers"...
I decided to work vertically so that
I could also use it as a
wall hanging...
I finally figured out how I wanted
the "Path" to flow...

I cut the stones fabric on the bias
so I could could get little curves...
And
the little yellow flower on the bottom
right is part of an old window shade
pull that my Grand-mere made...I
just added some French knots in
variegated yellow thread...

My wildflowers are definitely of
the "fantasy" variety ;)))

Our next prompt is:
 "Garden Door"
or
"Garden Gate"

I am struggling to figure out
how to do this one...
and have kind of put it on the
back burner to think about
it.  Or just not
do it at all...👀

I have more work to do still
on the backgrounds along the path--
I m thinking of adding grasses....
and more greenery about the base of
the trees...
***********************
Mr. Sun has finally come out today...
we took a short (for me!) walk
on the field path--it was
really great to get out in the
fresh--though brisk -- air!

CRUMB QUILTS and MORE

Fiona's Crumb quilt
all layered up and ready for
pin basting...

Here is the close up of the border"
I love how this goes with the
lavender strips....

AND...
Here is Willa's
all layered and ready for
pin basting....
and
a close up of her border
One of my favorite
(I've been hoarding this one!!)
prints...

********************
Later on...
they are both pin basted and ready to
be machine quilted...
Tomorrow i will set up my machine
for quilting and work on these two
and my Ojos which is also ready
to be quilted...
I was going to hand quilt the Ojos--
but my hands are really
sore these days with all my other projects
on the go...

**************************
↡↡↡↡
Here is my first addition to my
"Slow Stitching"

Just a small bit of greenery using up
some of my
my lacey pieces left over from my
Crazy Quilting..

I want to add embroidered stems and
little leaf-ey things...with
fantasy wildflowers
and
do something with that
sky piece at the
top...

I left the bottom of the ruffled sari silk open
so that I will be able to begin the next prompt
there...

AND...
I have all these pieces leftover
I want to use them in this
"Down the Garden Path"
fabric snippet roll...scattering
them along the way...

I won't be  buying anything for this
project,
but trying to use up what I have
on hand.

Nicki Lee's "Raviolee Dreams"
is the etsy site
where I purchased the lace bits
many years ago...She
really does beautiful work...
i have quite a pile of them:
↯↯↯↯
The pinks include a mauve-y shade
which I love...

***********************
I am continuing on knitting
my facecloths in the
evenings while watching
the tube...

*******************
Another rainy and dark gray day here...
will that Sun every come out?????

VOLUME THREE: DOWN THE GARDEN PATH

I finished the base of my
"Down the Garden Path"
for
#Roxy's Journal of Stitchery
Volume Three...
[she posts on YouTube
every Wednesday]

The first prompt is:
"Wild Flowers"

I have decided
to stitch
vertically
for more of a wall hanging
unrolling from my bobbin
like so--
I have pinned up the extra
length for ease of working..

Now to add the first prompt
which is
"Wild Flowers"...
and maybe some kind of sky-like
cloud formations?

This project continues
through June of this year...
with two prompts per month
{I don't know if I will be
able to stay caught up as
the cloth is quite large to
cover...}.

Stay tuned...

*************************
Cold as it was this morning --
in the low thirties with a WNW
wind---we went for a short
walk to the field
and I managed one circuit..
As one says:
"Better than nothing!"

JANUARY CRUMBS

I finished sewing Fiona's Crumb lap
quilt center with the lavender bars;

AND

Here is Willa's

With the pale blue bars.

Here they are together--
the same
only different:)))
and use up some of the tiniest
bits I have found..

Now,
I only have to add borders
to make them wider
and backings
to make them into small
lap quilts...
*************************

These are my month's
crumb piecing...

I will try something different
for February in my attempt to
whittle down my crumbs and
cut offs...
👀
BECAUSE...
I have cut offs and strips and
crumbs from the 1980's when I
first began quilting and wanted
to "SAVE" all the odd pieces...
but never used them much...
******************************
Another gray and rainy day here
I made us a meatloaf
for dinner  along
with what will be mashed
potatoes and gravy...

A good supper for a
cold, raw
day...

JUST BECAUSE....

My progress on the purple
themed crumb blocks...8 more blocks to
finish before adding
separator strips
in lavender...

********************

I had thought I was going to do the next
Slow Stitching for Roxy's
Journal of Stitchery--
But if you look here on
my design wall below:

↧↧↧↧
On the right, you can see the Slow Stitch
fabric snippet roll I made a
couple years ago...

This next 6 month's stitching is
just really a larger version of
a garden snippet roll---
and I had enough
trouble putting this one together
as I recall ;000
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

And on the left is my next UFO:

My Mourning piece for my
Mom and Dad's Passing...
Mom has been gone for 7 years
now (I cannot believe it!!)--
and it is time to finish
this one up.

It is all hand stitched--
and free cut...
even the squares are hand
stitched together--

It took me about 3 years
to add the embroidery which symbolizes
their passing (two hearts on the bottom
left with rootlets growing into the earth.
I kept having to put it away as
it made me SO SAD...)

AND
My moving on into the
Circle of Life on the top right..
I used a lot of the methods I learned
in an online class with Jude Hill...
So....
I want to back this and hang it in
my sewing space....

Next up is to find a suitable backing...

*******************
I have also set up a Rainbow Glue Book
for myself as I find this work so
relaxing and I
L💙ve
to cut paper and glue...
AND IT IS EASY!!!:))))

I used a simple composition
notebook, gluing two pages together
and sealing them with Washi Tape
for strength...

Below is that result:

A rainbow of colors along the
edges denoting
what color images to glue
on each page--

There are
three pages for every color--

but blue has four
💙💙💙💙
(I Love Blue )
And the back pages will be
 Black & White Images...

*******************
So, between the above projects
and my Garden Embroidery
(I am waiting for some
needles to come in the mail
to begin)
I should have more than enough to
keep me busy....and give myself
the variety I need to choose
from every day...

***********************

I hope your New Year is going well,
we loved the holidays, but are happy to
get back to what passes for normal
around our House on the Hill...
