USING-IT-UP-SEWING PROJECTS, et al

Blue Charms is all layered up,
pinned, and ready to be quilted.
I've used up all of my long-hoarded
peacock feathers fabric...

I've kept all of my very favorite
fabrics after the de-stash;
and now I will be using them...;)))
*********************
Here is the Scrappy Log Cabin
flimsey:
↴↴↴↴
I decided that a center-matching
red border would contain
this one nicely...

*********************
And here is my latest progress on
the Pavement blocks; they are
in no particular order, and in fact,
I am not sure I like them all
that much right now...

I am hoping that more blocks
will help....????
Since I am working with scraps and
chunky leftovers, doing any
kind of an even number of
pinks, yellow, and greens
is really not possible.

I did pull some other lighter
pinks from my pink bag,
and a few more greens, and I
will try to add them to the mix.

Each pair, if you want to match them up,
require {8} 3.25" cut triangles.
(I need that extra little bit--
.25 of an inch--
to get the blocks to measure
4.75" inches);
the centers are 3.5" squares.
&
?????????????????????'s

Should all the yellow centers
 be lined up together
and all the greens etc.???
Or staggered??
OR...
Should all the corners
be the thing
to match?

What are your thoughts??
👀😕👀
YIKES...

I guess trying to figure this
out before all the blocks are sewn is
next to impossible...
At least for me it seems to be...

And so I will continue to sew these
up until I run out of leftover
scraps....

***************************
We had a rainy morning and now
the sun has come out to make
it VERY humid
Here is a shot of our weather station..
When that Dew Point climbs up into
the 70's our AC goes on and we
GO INSIDE>>>

I hope you are getting some sewing in today...

FRIDAY FLOWERS, et al

My belated birthday present
from Jeff, Lin, and
the girls--
isn't it just gorgeous?

I thought it was a mini petunia--
but, as you can see, it
 is a
"Calibrachoa".
It requires full sun for at least
6 hours a day and plenty
of water;
but no dead-heading is
necessary!!

Here is the tag in my
Altered Book Junk Journal

I drew at little mushroom for company
and then added some cut out mag pieces...

I put the care tag on this page
so I can remember what it is...

Here is a close up of these lovely blooms.

***************************
In other sewing news..

I have finished my 12
scrappy Log Cabins:
They are just put up on the
order I finished them--
willy-nilly--;
and
most likely I will want
 to re-arrange them...

*******************
Here are the Pavement blocks
I've finished so far:
↶↶↶↶
I am liking that "spark"
of yellow in there so far...
I cut more yellow, darker pink,
and green blocks and
triangle corners this
morning.
These will be my
weekend sewing...

***********************
Tonight our dinner will be my
Chicken and Rice casserole
which is all prepared and ready
to go into the oven at 4 pm for a
5:30-ish meal...
YAY
No 4'oclock prep!!
😇

I wish you a happy weekend
from under
our partly cloudy skies
and growing humidity...

WEDNESDAY'S WALL

Here are my current projects...
My log cabins,
(3 more to make of these)
my blue charms,
Autumn charms, and the new
pavement blocks on the
far right....

Here is a closer look
at the newest scrappy
stash-busting for
chunks  pavement blocks:
↴↴↴↴
I am using up a mix of:
yellows, pinks,
and greens for these.

They are another really
fun block to make...
:)))
I saw them on Cathy's
"Sane and Crazy" blogspot
and wanted to make some...
[like right away!!]
👀😆👀

In re-organizing my stash--
[which now has been interrupted
yet again by making another
new-to-me block !!:))) ]
--hahaha--

I came across those green
Jan Patek fabric leftovers,
and some gifted pinks,
and my small yellow
chunks leftovers...

I have never done this color combo before
so we shall see how they turn out...

************************
And here we all are at the
SUMMER SOLSTICE
already....

Here is my DIL and my two grands--
Fiona (L) and Willa (R)
enjoying these fleeting Summer days...
and here is my son Jeff
(can you tell he just finished
teaching for the year??)
Happy times with family outings
and many more ahead...
They all visited on Father's Day
and we had a lovely time of it;
plus my daughter also came down
to join us...
****************************

We are hoping to have a BBQ get-together
in July...everyone is checking the schedule..

Ahhhh
"summertime summertime
sum-sum-summertime"
Oh yes!!
;)))

BASH THE SCRAP STASH!

Here's a peek underneath my
side table near Helga--
Multiple scrap bags...some
sorted into colors,
a lot not!!👿

I got a bit tired of working with charms
yesterday, so this morning
I decided to try to
"Bash the scrap stash" a bit.

*********************
I pulled these out for a start
into light and darker colors:
they are mostly strips and
smaller pieces

And here is what I am doing with them:
↴↴↴↴
I am making some totally random
log cabins with the centers
all red and on point...

This is just really mindless
and relaxing sewing--
as I am sewing them on a fabric
foundation which is an old
pillow case cut into 7.5" squares...

I am just grabbing and sewing--
no over thinking or
"matchey-matchey-ing"
;))))

[if that isn't a word,
it should be-- haha].

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

This afternoon Tom and I will
be watching
Formula One (F1)
Canadian Grand Prix
practices 1 & 2...

&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Sunday, Father's Day,
Candice will be coming
for lunch with us...
Always look forward
to that💖...

BLUE DIAMOND CHARMS

I used up almost all of the blue
"unearthed" charm squares.
This may not be the final setting,
they are just up there as I
finished them...
I feel
that the darkest blue one
should be in the center...??
And
you may have noticed that
the top center one has one
different square--that's
all I could find of those--
I guess the 4th one
is M I A ;)))
****************
Next--
I will be re-arranging them
in their final setting, and sewing them
together along with the Autumnal
ones I've also finished...

********************
What I have left of those
magically appearing charms
[👿👹👺]
are:
Black on White and
White on Black,
(quite a few of those)--
along with a couple
purples, browns,
and grays...

It will be a challenge to use
these up...I may just use
the B&W and W&B together
in alternating squares...
perhaps with a solid sashing?
I just don't know...

I will have to count them up to
see how many there are
before deciding to keep them
or donate them...

I do like this method
of sewing charms;
and I can see a lot of
other settings
could be used, too.

***********************

My marigold seeds are
springing up--but are
still too small for transplanting...

I need to plant my sunflowers
and
Money Plant seeds next.
[back allowing!!]

Hoping your skies are blue
and the sun is shining...

SUNDAY SEWING---SOMETHING NEW TO LEARN

When Tom unearthed the extra
charms, I thought I would try out
"strip inserting" after seeing
Beth Shibley's
Youtube video
detailing her method.
[find her at
"My Sewing Room" ]

So, I pulled out the few
leftover browns and yellows,
for an Autumnal look,
and cut a leftover multi-
colored fabric into
one inch strips...

This is my "practice piece".
I will be adding borders to make
it into a table topper --
hoping to find leftover jelly
roll strips for that.

[Continuing in my
"Use it up or
donate it" mode]
✌👌👍
Meanwhile, I found quite a
few unearthed blue
toned charms that
I really liked.
So.... I cut a
very old batik fabric into
one inchers and I will
make a larger piece
using those throughout...
↴↴↴↴
Here they are all pre-cut &stacked up--
ready to be sewn at my leisure
this coming week.
[You can just see the insert strips
behind them.]

I am looking
forward to putting this one
together as there are at least
four of each pattern--
which is perfect if I want to
put the same fabric
into focus in the strip-outlined
square as above.
**********************
Sunday supper will be:
Tom's family favorite homemade
spaghetti sauce...yummy--
along with crusty garlic bread...

Enjoy your Sunday

ALTERED BOOK JUNK JOURNAL (ABJJ)

I altered this old, used cookbook
first by removing a lot of pages;
I chose this book as the illustrations
within are just lovely.....all in the
same manner as this cover for
each recipe...
 I used washi tape
on all the page edges
to strengthen them.
And
I will be adding fabric tabs
as I finish pages...
😅😇😊😍

Here is my title page:
It is a very busy junky
mish-mash one;)))--

with writing in any blank spaces
willy-nilly--as the
spirit moves me of if I
think of some little thing on the fly...

I altered the title word
"FOOD"
with the cut out letters for
"Spring" and "2023".

The 1st spread above is in progress:

Includes two flips--one (R) being the
seed packet for my newly planted
marigolds and the other (L) a little
collage tab,  they both
have writing spaces
on the backs...
↓↓↓↓
Here is the reverse side of the Marigold
seed packet detailing when I planted --
and there is another tabbed tag inside
the top pocket for more writing space.
I am also using magazine images along
with coffee dyed papers.
A little bit of everything--a fun way
to get out of that "perfection" mode
I so often find myself trying to
achieve.

On this page, I've begun decorating with:
A torn, uneven, collaged paper flower with
a button center that I sewed together
on Helga ;)))

and here is a little closer look:
I added Stickles for some sparkle
and sewed a paper ruffle for the stem..
all colored using distress inking...

I have more torn paper flowers
to be sewn together
for some future pages...

I find this kind of playing
with paper, glue and scraps
such a relaxing pastime..
so satisfying for me ;)))

I may not write every day, in here,
[I do that in my Hobonichi Weeks Journal]
but I will add bits and bobs
of
what is happening
the rest of this year...

****************************
The sun is FINALLY shining, at least
for now, as we are told that the
smoke may return in fits and starts
later on today and throughout the
weekend.
It seems that those
Canadian wildfires are still not
contained...they cover
 such a huge area--
so that is not surprising..

Enjoy your weekend:
Stay calm and relaxed...

TABLETOP HOP, et al

My first table topper is finished...
"Green Days"...
I was able to use up old bindings
on this one, too...

Here is the back:
[Photo washed out--colors are a lot more vibrant]

You can see the patched together bindings
that I used leftover from my bigger
quilts for the grandkids'
"Going Away to College"
quilts...
;)))
**************************
 And
Here is the 2nd finished topper:
I decided to use leftover black & white
binding strips which I sewed together

Here is the reverse which shows the cutlery
fabric and the binding fabrics, too...

Plus, I figured out a little helpful
way to fold the binding corners--
so I didn't need to get up
and go to my big ironing board
↧↧↧↧
Why didn't I think of this before??

All I know is that the longer you
make quilts the more you
learn
 even after
some 40-odd years of
makings...
😊💖😊

Both toppers are approximately
24" square...just perfect for my
square table in front of
our fireplace
(photo 1 above)
and I used up the end of my
Charm Squares
Y A Y!!!
***********************
Now I will be moving onto
leftover layer cakes and
jelly rolls.

This way there is not a whole lot of
cutting going on as my hands
have really been playing up after
I rotary cut...

This has been a good chance to
try out a "new-to-me" block
also; and I plan on picking
another block that I haven't
tried before as I move through my
"stash bashing"...

**********************
Three full bags of fabrics went out
yesterday to "Hartsprings"--
[my charity of choice around here
as they will come and pick
up your donations ]
along with leftover
Project Life scrapbooking cards.

It felt so good to see them go
to a worthy cause...

 *******************
Soooooo,
this weekend I will have to
re-organize what's left of my
1/2 yds. and Fat Quarter fabrics
after my 2nd round of
de-stashing...
And
I plan to do another
de-stash
round for the
Autumn pick-up...

Who knew how many fabrics I had
collected over the years?????

There were a lot of surprises
in my closet shelves.
And
I haven't even taken down the
storage boxes yet....
😟
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

I hope your upcoming weekend will be
a good one...
