SUNRISE, SUNSET= A FLIMSY

Finally a flimsy...

Here are a few of the little "fussy cuts"
in here:
Ladies...

Little bonnet fairy girl...

Little Pink bunny,,,

Baby Fairy girl...

I cannot get over how much difference the
pinks in this version of
"Blues in the Night" made...
I shouldn't be surprised, but I am
at the totally different vibe...
And....

I want to make more of these to scatter
across the backing...

******************************
I am resting my hands from slow stitching
on Kawandi-aka
"Daughter of Dark Days"
  and Christmas Ojos
for a few days...
***********************
Here are few funny notes from DH to
remind me to get up and walk around:

and
The RULES:
(can you tell he was a teacher???hahaha)

******************************
We are still in a heat wave here today--
no cool front or thunder storms in
sight as yet....
fingers crossed that we will be getting
the predicted relief...
S O O N....

FLOWERING ,et al

The brief rain shower we had two days ago
brought my Hydrangea into bloom;)))
Aren't these big blowsy flowerheads just beautiful !!
their whites are SO WHITE--against the
deep green leaves....

It sits by our deck staircase and we
can view it from our living room back window
as we sit there for our daily cocktail hour
and chat...
What a lovely sight 😊
**********************

My African Violet has just finished
a huge spate of blooming
and there are now just a few
little blooms left
I wonder if it will put forth more flowers
or if I will have to wait while it
rests up...?????

****************************
And Kawandi
aka "Daughter of Dark Days"
is also
in Flower:
↴↴↴↴
I finished pinning all the patches in
place--not the usual pin as you go
method, but I don't care for that
piecemeal way of construction...
So....

I added this lovely floral fabric as the central
motif...and got everything
placed....

As I work around--each
round gets shorter and shorter
and the stitching
 moves along faster...

You can see the spiraling stitches move
in the rectangular shape...
here is the warm end

And..
Here is the cooler end...

Using varied colored threads makes the lines
appear and disappear depending on the
fabric colors as I move along...
toward the central portion....
************************

We are still in a heat
and humidity wave here
in our SE CT shoreline...
But....
They predict showers on Thursday
followed by a cool front moving over us...
I sincerely hope so!!

Hope those of you suffering in this heat
can stay cool

KAWANDI PROGRESS, et al

Here are some
"in progress" photos as I
continue working on my
Kawandi-style table runner:

Above is the first sewing round;

and below
The next round with added pinned-
in place fabrics; the cool colors end here
and
The "warm" colors end here.

[you can see the new rows of
stitches in varying colors of threads...]
.
I am trying to make it a "rainbow-like"
piece with blues and purples
moving across the middle area.

My dining room table--as a result--
 is a total mess
of fabrics as I search for
fabrics that move into adjacent
colors well...

Not that easy just using what I have
on hand--which are mostly prints...
And here you can see that I have added more fabrics
around...just that middle area now to be covered.
But I need to do more stitching around and around
and around .... sigh....

These last few rounds where the blues/purples and
reddish colors meet are the most difficult
to figure out...so that they "flow"
together a bit...

I am tempted to just fill in the center with a
multicolored print and call it done!!

**********************
Our temps and dewpoints have dropped
considerably today so we are able to
sit out on our deck for morning coffees.
...
My daughter is on her way down here
for lunch with us armed with
grinders for us all;)))

So looking forward to catching up with
her and my grands' doings...

KAWANDI DEUX, et al

I've been wanting to make another
Kawandi-style piece
since I finished this little
practice one:
↧↧↧↧↧↧
I learned a lot making this....
and I really like the process--
so different...and so
nice and scrappy...

One thing for sure--I want to stitch
in closer rows this time and with more
lines of quilting ,,,

Could this turn out to be
"Daughter of Dark Days"????

(See the uneven stitching? )
I may take it all out and re-do them--
S  I  G  H..
but if I don't I
KNOW it will bother me...so
before I get any farther on the border...
Ribbit, ribbit, ribbiting...

It's hard for me to sew on a table without
leaning forward too much
and hurting my back; so,
I will pin the pieces in place for
one whole side and then
(I know it's not really done that
way traditionally)  I will to sew as
usual  in my lap.

I am just using stash and scraps
on hand and that is revealing that I have
a whole lot of "darks" and
not that many "lights" of every
color stack...

Since I've been taking out
one color at a time and
refolding them
(so I even can tell WHAT I
have in there!! What a mess!!)
I figured this would be a good time to
set up a new Kawandi-style piece...
[You can see the piles of fabrics on
my table above...]

***********************
And....in other news...
↡↡↡
We have a lot of green tomatoes, but none have, as yet, turned red...

***********************
It is a lovely day; low humidity and cooler with a nice
Northerly breeze....
We had our coffee out on the deck--
Aaaahhhh..
.
Nice slow start to the day...

CHRISTMAS OJOS, et al

I am working on hand quilting my
"Christmas Ojos" piece...
That will reside on my dining table during
the Holiday Season...
The central "greener" portion
above is
all quilted now.

 And
↓↓↓↓

I am working on the next to last row from the sides
all the way around...

I switched from mint green thread to
pink (using "Finca"  perle #8 cotton)
my favorite weight for this bigger
stitching...

I am revisiting so many old scraps
of favorite fabrics in this piece:
flamingoes...

and Christmas puppies....

Pointsettas and red roses

Snowflakes
and
Teacups
and
Vintage snowmen...

I hope to have this all quilted for this coming
Christmas...working two blocks per
sitting right now to make sure my
hands don't get sore...
*****************************
I am feeling a lot better this week;
happy to say....
πŸ˜‡πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜
I've only had two days where
I was under the weather, so to speak.
And they were not a difficult as
they had been...
Fingers crossed πŸ‘
that there will be fewer and
fewer relapse days...

I hope those of you in this heat wave
are able to stay cool--
we are in the AC
(heaven knows what our
electric bill will be!!).

SUNRISE, SUNSET, et al

I have been slowly working on my
peachey-pinkish blocks...
I will call this one
"Sunrise, Sunset"
[thanks to my friend, Lizzy's suggestion
thanks so much;)))]

I think it really fits my scrappy colorways...
I have two more blocks to make and
I am doing them in manageable sections:
Cutting, then
Piecing the half-square triangles
[5 sets to make 10 of them.]

Then, after cutting them apart...
Pressing them open to ready them
for
Trimming into
3.5" 1/2 sq triangles.

I began with 4 1/4" squares so a bit
of trimmings result...

Here is my next block set up for sewing ...
Tomorrow I will just sew it into three strip parts
and then the next day sew them together...

I love working this way...πŸ’—
It makes sense to my fog-laden brain...
No overdoing at one sitting and getting
tired out and then making mistakes...

*****************************
When I sat at my machine this morning
I spied this cutie out my window...
can you see her???

Munching on our clover...
How adorable...
πŸ’–πŸ’š
*******************
I hope you are all staying cool during this heat wave...
We are lucky to have our AC to keep us
comfortable here...

EMERGING, et al

LOOK AT THIS!!!!
Our first little tomatoes are emerging....
I am finding this SO exciting!!:)))

It has been years since I've grown
any vegetables and I still feel a
big sense of accomplishment
when plants produce...πŸ˜‚

and...I feel that

I am finally beginning to turn the corner
with these left over symptoms
from both the Lyme disease
and Anaplasma from my tick bites...
I still have relapses, but fewer
and fewer....

I am less nauseous and am
having fewer headaches
with mainly that "brain fog"
hanging on the longest...

But...πŸ‘Œ
I was able to sew a few pink strips
from my pink strip leftovers box
into a 6.5" block
....as a beginning....
A new emerging project

For my making of
a pink/peach version
of the "Blues in the Night" blocks
as I did really enjoy making these...

Here is a picture of the Blues in the Night
if you recall it...???

I had placed the central 6.5" block horizontally
in this blue version,
But I will place it
vertically in my latest
version:
All the fabrics, both in strips and
chunks for the 1/2 square triangles,
are from stash leftovers...

My pinks are limited so I've also added
some peachy ones and some that are
a bit off the pink spectrum...
this one will be
a really scrappy version...
😊

I plan to take the making of these
slowly, step by step, each
day that I feel well enough
and am trying not overdo--
so far
I've sat maybe 10 minutes +/-
at a time to sew....

My concentration is still pretty
shakey....and I do take frequent naps
which seem to help a lot...

Thank you to all who sent me
such encouraging messages...
