QUIET DAYS, et al

I have made some progress on my
embroidery project...
S  L  O  W  L  Y...

I've finished May, June, and July--
And am now working on August...

I only do two thread lengths per day
to save my hands from cramping...

Stopping in the middle of stuff is totally
new to me--I always have pushed on
to "finish" whatever--but
time does bring changes and
I am trying to S L O W myself
down...

I had begun this piece with the thread
that came with the kit--so, as some of you
who are "eagle eyed" can spot--
that thread had a very "orange cast" to it.

I don't like that for redwork--so I
 switched to a better red:
DMC Perle cotton ( 8)
Color 902:
a lovely deep, dark red...

Can you see?  Can you see?
The little heart-shaped flowers are
that deeper red that I am using...
I like my choice so much better...
:))))))

The other project I have worked on is
a "Spine-ish" catalogue glue book
which I plan to use to practice
collage and layering--which seems
to be very very difficult for me to
grasp.!!! 👺👿👀

The idea of covering up lovely
pictures--
( or pieces of fabric for that matter)
doesn't seem to make any sense to me...

So this is a concept
I am experimenting with in
this new gluebook I've concocted.

I took a mail order catalogue and
folded each page to the middle and
glued it into place and then
used washi tape reinforce
each spine area:

Here you can see the pages are now
half-sized vertically and have
washi tape for strengthening...

It is a clothing catalogue and the
pages are just as they came to me;
I will be adding my own collages over them..

It should be challenging to see what to
cover and what to leave in place...
Nice change from starting with
all-white, plain pages.

Tomorrow morning, Tom and
I are going for our senior flu shots...
and hoping that we don't have any
reactions...;((((

We have an appointment for 11 a.m.
Soooo
I will be preparing everything for
our dinner ahead of time just
in case I start to feel funky...
👽👽👽

I will be making my Chinese Chicken Hoisin
in my wok over steamed rice...
This is one of our favorite meals...

Take care and enjoy this long weekend
ending with Columbus Day...
hugs, Julierose,

  1. Not reading much; sort of in limbo with quilting right now--need a short time to re-think what i really want to do....

  2. Love your embroidery project! I prefer your red thread when compared to the one that came with the kit. It's very neat to see how you're using that catalog. Good luck with the flu shot. I got my shingles vaccine a few weeks ago and still don't feel 100% back to normal. I'm getting there a little at a time. I'm not looking forward to the second shot.

  3. I like your dark red thread choice too.
It doesn't seem like time for Columbus Day already. I think that's because we have still had many warm days. Trees are starting to turn color this week.

  4. What a fun way to use the catalog! Me, I still push to finish. There's so much I wanna do!

  5. I love your redwork project. The thread change will add textural interest.

The reworked catalog collage book is cool. You get some good catalogs! I only get LL Bean anymore.
When my joint pain began about 8 years ago I had to learn to just stop too. It's hard, I loved long winter afternoons sewing in my little quilt room. Or knitting on a snowy afternoon.
I hope no side effects of the flu shot! I feel like not enough is being done to refine the myriad vaccines offered now. Such bad side effects. To the extent that I am GLAD I can't get the shingles shot bec it's a live vaccine and I am immune suppressed. My friend's doctor told her she should come in every month for a vaccinne...so awful, she'd be miserable [covid flu, RSV shingles, etc etc then covid again.] Anyway dinner sounds delish, wish I could come by.

  6. I like your pretty redwork project. Do hope you are both OK after your flu shots. Have you had reactions previously? All we've had is just the expected tender arm for a day or so.

  7. What a fun embroidery project. I agree, the red color is very pretty but the two together in that section do work well together. Enjoy your weekend and I hope there are no ill effects from the shots.

  8. So many people report having side effects from the various vaccines. I've never had anything more than a sore arm for a day. I feel very lucky. I've had my Covid and RSV shots, but still need to get the flu shot. I won't get more than one at a time.
I think the darker red looks better, too. Good decision to change.

  9. Your sweet embroidery is filled with whimsy. A resounding yes to that darker red. I too find it difficult not to keep on stitching but my hands and fingers really tell me that I must stop. =) I'm fascinated what you are going to do with the sales catalogue. This is going to be a fascinating collage.

  10. Good afternoon, Julierose. Your embroidery project is looking so fabulous. I really like how both of the floss colors look. 902 is such a lovely deep red. I am very intrigued by your new journal. I have the same problem as you- hard to cover up some images. I will be working on my travel journal soon and use lots of pretty pamphlets as we travel. I look forward to seeing your progress. You give me inspiration on my journaling. Have a great evening. Hugs.

  11. Yes, Julierose, you selected the perfect dark red thread for your embroidery project. You are so creative with your journaling. I enjoy watching your progress on that craft. Hope you did not have any issues with the shot!

  12. The dark red is the best for your project, taking your time with the embroidery is good, no use if your hand becomes stiff. Hope you enjoyed your Chinese Chicken dish.
