CHRISTMAS OJOS FINISHED, et al

I finished "Christmas Ojos:
this afternoon...
{as usual click to enlarge any photos}
💚💖💝
Here is a closer look at the binding I chose...

and
how the pink quilting looks on
the reverse tone on tone green:

As you can see, I did the 2.5" strip binding all on
my machine--ending with a zig-zag on the
front side

I love all those little special items contained in this piece;
a good Christmas memory quilt...

Full of "bits and bobs" of leftover
favorite fabrics...

Here it is on my dining table--most likely
it will be featured lying over my deep maroon
cloth which should set it off nicely
 for my Christmas dinner...

Here is my Autumn Bounty topper with an old,
favorite bright yellow teapot
on my table for the coming
of Fall 🍂🍁🍃

I really love that center pear fabric...
💛💛💛

I have also hung my Autumn Stars on
the dining room wall..
[I need to make little hangers for it, right now
its just tucked over the bar !! ]

I will finish putting out more Autumnal pieces
tomorrow...to welcome
Fall into
our
home...

JUNQUE JOURNALING, et al

Here is a new double page spread from
my Pita Box Junque Journal...
{you can click to enlarge if you wish}

I am using a lot of old photos
in this Journal--juxtaposed with
modern magazine images...

Can you find the face stamp on each page???
They tend to get partially hidden sometimes...
This has become my signature image for
this volume...;)))

I call this one my
Lady of Mystery...

Some pages have journaling cards
or spots to write...
Here, I've used an old group
photo of Aunts of mine
as a holder for the
little Journaling card..

******************
Little by little, I am filling these pages;
I have one more section left to
prepare --I don't write every day
diary style, but only when the
spirit moves me...

I am really having fun playing
in my
Pita Box
Junque Journal.

💛💜💝
😇

NEXT...et al

"Sunrise, Sunset" is next in line
for a long term hand quilting project...
I am beginning on the long coin strip center...

*****************************
Here is the final version of
"Falling Leaves"
A Flimsy now...

I decided to add just two more borders
with cornerstones of the leaf fabric...

***************************

And I finally finished my hand quilting on
"Christmas Ojos"
(Phew--lots of stitches here)
I love how textured it came out...

You can see all the stitching here....
😇😊😌😍
Now I have to find a good binding
fabric...
***************************
Here is my little collection of
meditation spools on my buffet...
Five done now...
They are perched on my Grand-mere's old
cake stand and sitting on her
crocheted doily...

Those dried roses are from my last
year's bouquet from my
Sweet Baboo 👄💖

*******************************
Tomorrow my daughter and her family
will all be coming to share lunch with us
before they are off to college and/or
work for the Autumn...

Also, (one of the twins grandsons), Greg,
is bringing his new girlfriend
to meet us--hmmmmm
must be serious, right?
👫👌;)))

We hope to hear all about their
recent family trip to Brazil
for their cousin's wedding
celebration...💒

RAIN, et al

Isn't that something--that I had to take a picture of it finally raining!!
😓😒😐😕
We got all of 1.07" overnight here--look at our straw lawn there;
that shows just how dry we've been... We seem to be in a little
space that never got any rain --except perhaps .01 here and there
once in a while all this Summer...so this was an "event" for us...

*******************************
Itsy-Bitsy Spider is all together
and
awaiting a border --
(N.B.--this was a challenge to sew the sections
together with all those seams!!)
and
my other latest project.....
Falling Leaves right next to it on my
design wall...is still waiting a decision
on borders or not or what????
*******************
And....
"Christmas Ojos"
only has 3 more blocks for me to
hand quilt left!! 😂😄😅😇

*************************
I pulled out this old UFO
and am now in the process of choosing
a backing and then layering it up
for my machine quilting pile...
It's been around for so long I cannot
even recall if I named it or not???
I used all my little leftover 1.5" sqs
for this one...it needs to be finished...

**********************
Sorry about not answering your comments
on my last "Itsy-Bitsy" post--
😭😢😱
your comments all had gone to spam--
(thank you Blogger!!👿with no notification!)

But thanks to my sharp-eyed friend
Who emailed me about this SNAFU,
I went into "Help" and was able
to fix it (I hope!!) --
If your comment doesn't show up,
let me know would you?
Thanks;))))

"THE ITSY BITSY SPIDER...", et al

My "Itsy Bitsy Spider" piece is all
sewn--[just pinned up on the wall
in the orientation I will use].

(I would love a bigger version, but
my arms and shoulders say
"Nay, Nay"!!)

I had such fun piecing this on these
[purchased from MSQCo online]

{for whoever asked how I pieced it?}
⇊⇊⇊⇊
I made my own template for the centers (green fabrics)
and pieced the strips on either side to make
that web...;
plus,  I used my leftover strips from
my "Sunrise, Sunset" piece
 that is now ready
to be quilted...
😏
[Stand in line with all the others!!]

BUT.....L 👀👀 K↓↓↓
at all the strips still to be used up...
So....
I have begun making strip sets
for some future use,
I don't want these hanging around
in a baggie and
forgotten forever!!
If they are pre-sewn together there
is a better chance they will get used..
at least that is my thinking right now..

*********************
And, for those of you interested in our
tomato-growing
experiment
here is the first picking:
👀
Not too shabby, huh?
Altho', I did find that we lost a lot
to "bottom rot" (???)
And why, I have no idea...

{Don't you love my new little "treat" for myself of
that adorable little chicken salt cellar-- Right
below my Grand-mere's
 blueware jug that holds cooking
utensils???😉}

I am surprised that we harvested
that many tomatoes
as we've had virtually no rain at all
this Summer
and have had to rely on
watering ourselves...

Here are my plants now
and the new little
greening tomatoes...

Looks like more to come....
and
here too

Tonight, I will be using those red tomatoes to make my
"Pasta Julianna"
 --so dubbed by my DH...;)))

A delish dish using spinach and onions sauteed
in V. Olive Oil along with the diced tomatoes and
then mixed with a pkg. of
cooked Fusilli pasta...
served with grated Parmesano..
😋😋😋.
Y U M M E E !!!
*************************
I hope you are enjoying these fleeting
(if still really hot)
days of Summer; who can believe
it's already halfway through
AUGUST?
In 1 and 1/2 weeks the school year
will begin once again.
And....
Despite being retired for over
20 years now, we still seem to follow the
school calendar...
Do you do that too????

All your comments went to spam--but i think it is fixed now...

USING IT UP, et al

I've decided on the raspberry fabric for the
first border; I want to add another
border that will be pieced...deciding
on a pattern
and using scraps again...

Thanks 💋so much for all of you who
gave me their favorite of the four
choices--I am hoping to incorporate
some of those other 3 fabrics in the
next border...

*****************************
File under "No New Projects--until
I finish
my WIPS month":

Well,.....
My excuse for beginning this spider web
is that I am actually "using up" all
the leftover pinks and peaches from
"Sunrise, Sunset"!! 😁😀😂
instead of stuffing them in a bag
to be forgotten....
Really, I can rationalize almost
anything when it comes to
"starting" a new "must make"
quilt.  😲
Also, I've made 3 other Spiders and
they were all gifted...and
I ALSO  found a trove of
LEFTOVER
Wacky Web papers from those
projects--

So, in my mind, at least,
this is re-using and recycling
[and ... JUST A FUN project hahaha.]

These are such fun to sew...with the
limited fabrics leftover that went together
so well on SS, I figure they should all
play well together...

***********************
I am continuing with
my hand quilting on Christmas Ojos--
on the last round of blocks--
not too many left;)))
But I am on a few days of rest
for my hands and shoulders...
[hence another excuse--uh--  "need" to
make the Spider Web ;)))]
😉😊😍
***************************
We finally got some rain overnight
.01" --big whup!! 💧North and West
of us received tons of rain...
It is a steamy 73.9 degrees
with a dewpoint
of 73.3--like a huge
SAUNA out there...ugh!!

Stay cool...

FALLING LEAVES, et al

I finished making the last two
Maple Leaf blocks for my
little Autumn table topper...
"Falling Leaves"

**********************
Now to choose a border:
???????
Here are my four choices:
Which one do you like?

This print picks up a shade of that pinky
color in the leaves and the whites...
[gives a bit of a forest feel?]

**************************
This below picks up the golds...
and adds nice pattern near the
whites...rich looking to me...
↓↓↓↓

*********************

This adds some of the light oranges and
the pink leaves...and is more modern looking
to my eye

***********************

and here the raspberry color is featured...
such a yummy deep color that definitely
highlights those fruits...

I must admit I am at a standstill--I kind of
like them all ...for different
reasons that emphasize various
colors in my leafy print...and
provide different vibes...

[maybe leaning just
a bit to the darker
raspberry???]

I have more of the leaf fabric and would have
loved to make a lap quilt, but I am
staying with smaller pieces these days...
especially since
I plan to hand quilt this one...

Let me know your choice...
thanks, ;))))

LAYERING, et all

"Gathered Blessings"
I finished  embroidering  and
have now bordered this piece
for layering...
[the panel is by
Kathy Schmitz
which you can see
across the bottom if
you click it]

This lovely cherries border fabric
was a gift from Wanda..
...thank you💗...

I have pulled this smaller piece
and the one below as my next
August finish those WIPs
projects.  I want to get them
ready for quilting...
↓↓↓↓
I call this "Little Handbaskets"
...
(Tom says : "Going to
H### in a handbasket"
haha always the comedian!]

I have yet to cut out
those green block fabrics
behind the bottom basket parts--
I will use my duckbills for that...
they were a Christmas gift long
ago from my Mom...
***********************
We have been in a "bad air quality alert"
from the Canadian wildfires here for
the past few days....and today the
skies are still clouded with smoke--
but there is no acrid smell today
so perhaps it is moving away....

******************************
"Sunrise, Sunset" is all pin basted
and will await its turn for hand quilting
until I have finished
"Christmas Ojos"
I am working on the outer row of blocks
the last ones;)))

Here is how the back looks:
I like how the pattern is coming out here;)))

*************************
This is how things stand here right now...
