I HAD to take it all apart as the sheet I was using for the backing piece
keep stretching and bunching up no matter how much I sewed it down...
It had a lot of "Polly-Wolly-Polyester" in it I guess...
:((((((((((((
Noooooooooo!!!!
I just could not make it behave--so I ripped out all my stitching--
yep until 1 am last night👽👻👹!!!
I could not see continuing on fighting it like this...
This time around I will use a
solid COTTON
backing
or a linen...
LIVE AND LEARN!!!

So,
I put all the bits and pieces and various
off-cuts into a big container to await my
next attempt--maybe not too soon...

Random sewing is not as simple as it looks

Now for some happier news:
I finished the August
block--
Sunflower--
yesterday....
Now I will start on Mr. Squirrel
who is September...
I am catching up
slowly but surely...
My stitches are not perfect, but
they are getting better as I go along...
')))))

SO.....
Only four more blocks and then
I can do the x'x borders, add some
little beads (included),
and then make it into a wall hanging...
Just sewing with two long lengths
of thread per day
yields good results
and doesn't
seem to impact my hands...

NO MORE "Polly-Wolly-Polyester" for me!! (File under: bad decisions and Songs for all occasions" I was humming that as I ripped and ripped and ripped...!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh no! Never use sheets, the percale is so hard to sew thru and/ or if old and soft, too unstable.--as you now know. The FUN is in the Process though, right?
ReplyDeleteYour redwork is darling. I did the embroidery on a Sara Sporrer block, and a mend on a fave shirt---that perle cotton is a b*&^%ch to use, my fingers got so sore. It is too bulky for the fine needles I like to use? Back to DMC floss for me, despite its annoying tangles.
It's a gorgeous day, I am off w/ Mo towards the beach soon. We'd love to find some bittersweet! Surprisingly chilly tho, bring a warm windbreaker if you walk by the shore.

I love redwork and that is a cute pattern.
ReplyDeleteMy old sheets were used for dropcloths for painting and to cover plants to save them from the first frost.
Well, I imagine that ordeal with the sheet was frustrating. I'm so sorry it didn't work out, but it sounds like you have a better plan for the backing. Your embroidery piece is so pretty, Julierose. Now I'm really loving the red you are using.

ReplyDelete"Bad sheet " indeed! I am so sorry that you had to take all of it apart but yes lesson learned. I have learned a few using sheets myself. LOL . Your embroidery is looking amazing, Julierose. Seeing this piece makes me in the mood for some redwork myself. Enjoy your day. Hugs.
