And, because I only have muslin for a lining, 
as all the Ojos blocks are constructed on
muslin squares, it is a very lightweight piece....
perfect for Summer Evenings near
our deck garden pots....
under the stars....aaahhhh....

And so, mes amies, you must all be saying--"Wonderful---here she is

BIND THY TIME

I sewed my binding on Ojos (ISF & ISR) on the first side...I used leftover strips from the Fairy quilts for Willa and Fiona...

I pieced these two together....just one little piece left of this lovely geranium 
fabric....

the main part of the backing is this lovely Monet-like landscape fabric...and the french script on either end....
so lovely....

Tomorrow I will sew the flip side of the binding down and then prepare
my label...today my back and shoulders need a time out....

Thom surprised me with this little gem of a surprise gift 
to ease my sewing bigger pieces:

This little side table to support my quilt and not have it dragging along the 
floor and constantly pulling.....;}}} what a sweetie--

I was able to relax more and it went on easily...well, ....
one little wavey piece on
my quilt..but I was able to  ease it in...not perfect--but done ;)))

I am so happy to have this almost finished....and to be able to move onto my
"Bret Bart and Me" project (see my last post for explanation).

I am making, on this windy, chilly and gray afternoon, homemade
chicken soup...a lighter meal tonight after last night's debacle....
I am using lo-fat, salt-free broth and pre-boiled chicken, with onions, celery a few carrot shreds and minimal seasoning....

After this happened:

Thom made his usual terrific creamed tuna on toast--last night
for supper....
but....we both ended up
feeling like we had lead in our stomachs and suffering from heartburn--
up and down all night  (Hello Pepcid and Tums)

JUST TOO RICH a sauce for us these days...so, 
                      this becomes the TUNE: (Tuna--groan...)
                           "...good-bye, so long forever..."..
for that recipe...
It seems ...............

We no longer can tolerate heavy sauces and gravy ....or very spicey foods....

I am attempting to change (not easy for me after cooking with them forever!!)
my cooking style...to lighten up our meals without losing flavor--I mean what
is the point of it, if it isn't satisfying, right?  I haven't had much success with
googled recipes either....both our families made "meat and potatoes" sorts
of meals while we were growing up as was the custom then.  that's
what we are used to....but, everything changes.....

Well...............I guess this has turned out to be a discourse on cooking and
aging digestive systems...huh!  who knew...

            My first "Maverick" (get it??? hahaha) Star table topper is a flimsy.......
                                                               (aka:BRET)

I love how the little door in the center welcomes in the Season.....

I think this could be either a Fall-ish or a Christmassy topper...
these are just such fun to make...

I have two more of 9 each here: ready to be sewn together....
                                 (aka BART) below...........

                                                        I have two doorways--
(always have an exit strategy..............
and sit with your back against the wall--= old cowboy movies advice )

I am a little blurry--but it's early in the morning...still waking up....lol
                        
The last two still need to be sewn together; I am finding that I like working on smaller
pieces after all...these should be fun to quilt and easy to handle...

How did this happen?

 It started out as a few blocks for leftovers...
I guess I had a LOTTA leftovers
 lol;0000.

           Here it is draped over my living room chair....
with the morning light.............
                                                 the blues seem to sparkle.....

Now to find a backing for this one...

For this:
I will be opening both my backing box 
and my Christmas fabrics box...

And then I plan to tie this one...

That's latest  the news for this Halloween morning....

AUTUMN SPREAD

I pulled out my Autumn Leaves blanket/bedspread yesterday..and laid it on top of
my spare room double bed...

                   You can see that I also used some ojos for the borders in Fall prints...

Here are some blocks from the reverse side:

This is when we had "Clara Schumann" aka/Schumee our Calico kitty--
I just love all
those fabrics....;))

and  I grew roses and sipped a lot of tea...and, of course, my favorite musical print 
that I wish
I had a few more yards of today..;(((

            More teapots, and musical instruments and flowers and ocean waves...

All these fabrics remind me of our younger years......

and another fabric, the likes of which I cannot seem to find today.....
Love these vibrant, leafy prints....

A favorite block featuring fabrics I purchased on our trip to Maine one long ago
Summer--just the two of us for a short getaway....

Every year I take this out, I am sent down memory lane once again.....

I think this was the third Big Quilt I made--no labeling in those early days....
And not much $$ either to buy fabrics--so they were cherished purchases...saved from my
piano teaching money....
Autumn is the time for Remembrance....

Tonight I made Shepherd's Pie or as we called it "Portay-Chinois" for 
our dinner. Both my Mom and my Grand-mere used to make this one....
It has:
Layers of cooked ground sirloin, 2nd layer-- corn niblets and, lastly,
 topped with mashed potatoes (with a little sprinkling of paprika on top):

This gets cooked at 350 for about 1 and 1/14 hours and I remove the foil 
for the last 15 minutes so that............................
those potatoes get all browned and bubbly on the top--YUUUUMMMY...
(I live for "brown stuff" ;}}} )

                                                       Thom and I love this meal
                                                       All-in-one dish...;)))

This time of year casseroles and slo-cooker meals just feel right, don't they?

And, this is all done ahead of time--so no FOUR-0'CLOCK cooking--just pop
'er in the oven @ 350 for about 1 to 1/14 hours...
