We transplanted this rhodie a couple
years ago and it has finally
decided to bloom --profusely--
this year. The true color is more of a
pinky-lavender than what shows
in the above picture...

Today has dawned sunny and beautiful
for deck sitting while easing into the
morning with our coffees...
I worked a bit on August Zinnia
The blue "sky sections" are done and now i am working my
way around the sunflower borders in bright yellow...

Yesterday I cut batting and backing and
layered up these two little
"Quilt-lets"
They are ready for pin basting....
and
here are the backings..
You may recall this is leftover
from my JP Moon Stars piece
as the boat....
It was just right for backing
My Little Flags...

Tonight we are having an easy, light
meal:
Tuna melts on Rye bread
with leftover potato salad I
made yesterday....
And
fresh strawberries
for dessert....
I hope your Memorial Day
weekend is a good one.

Such large gorgeous blooms on your rhodie. It is putting quite a show of color for it's 1st year of blooming. Sitting out on the deck working on Zinnia sounds delightful. Your quiltlets remind me of the mats that Beth Shibley often made. (Prob. still does; she quit blogging but is on YouTube, which I don't visit very often.) My mother often mentioned how she missed the rhododendrons from her western PA childhood. They don't grow in Chicagoland. I understood when I first saw them in the wild in Maine.

ReplyDeleteYour rhododendron is so full of lovely blooms. Ours bloomed briefly and now I have new stems shooting up. I have no idea how to take care of them as we didn't have them in FL. Your hand quilting is coming right along. The backing fabric for the flag quilt is perfect for it.
