BATTING BOOK NEXT PAGE....

My interpretation of
Soundgarden's :

"BLACK HOLE SUN"
by Chris Cornell..

I listened to all the versions I could
find on Youtube yesterday---
and I was so taken with the lyrics that
they inspired me to try to
render
them in fabric...

This is just my very starting
point on this...

I will be adding embroidery
and perhaps some
wording if I can figure out
how to do that...

Perhaps the facing page
should be the place for title
and lyrics......

What fun to challenge myself
to do this..
A new version of this tune
can be found here on
Youtube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3SZu_KhWig
or simply put in the words
"Black Hole Sun" in the search bar
and a lot of versions
will come up...;)))

Enjoy....

STRIP [SLIDIN' AWAY], et al

I've been [ ever so] slowly
sewing strips
and then
cutting into 2.5" sets--
to make us some new
placemats....

I had a jelly roll left over with
blues, purples, and greens...
These are now all layered up
and ready to pin baste before
I machine quilt them...
(Did you notice the title--???
"Strip" instead of
 "Slip" hahaha--
apologies to Paul Simon)

*****************************
AND...
LšŸ‘€šŸ‘€K
what decided to bloom for me:
My lovely hydrangea just below
the end of our back deck;
I think it is so pretty:)))
How can you not fall in love with this?????

**************************
I have also begun to sew a few
"Lego" strips;
I decided not to precut lengths
but rather to "cut as i go"
that gives me a lot of random
lengths that I like..
I am not sewing them into blocks
yet, but waiting until I have a lot
to choose from ...

And then again, I may just sew longer
strips for a dining room table topper...
Right now they measure
 from 14.5" the shortest--
 to 15.5" - 16"..
I am finding this such fun
šŸ˜‚šŸ˜ƒšŸ˜„šŸ˜šŸ˜†
 and
so easy...;)))
I can sit for 10 minutes
 here and there and
get a strip done from my
1.5" strips and cut offs...
Here is my set up to the left of Helga;
VERY loosely sorted into colors and
lengths.

The strips I've finished are folded in half
and stored in this little white basket
in front...
I am trying to make sure that there are enough
light-lights and dark-darks...
I also have some left over 1.5" squares in
that little blue container (top left)..
So, I can sit down and turn
on my Pandora and just sew away
šŸ˜‰šŸ˜

Stay cool these hot and humid
August days...

PITA BOX JUNQUE JOURNAL--WELCOME AUGUST, et al

I am continuing on with my "Pita Box Junque Journaling"...

I had prepared quite a few pages ahead
so now all
I have to do is
 add my journaling..,

This Journal is a combo of magazine
images and various papers and
stampings..
The small pix of the girl on the right
is a flip card with a journaling
spot on the back--
I love making those..
šŸ’œšŸ’›šŸ’œ

********************************
FYI: for those of you who have kindly
sent us your best wishes to us--
on our various med issues...

We are coming along pretty well.
Tom goes to his post op appointment
tomorrow [I will be driving as he cannot
as yet turn his neck to the left far
enough to be safe driving...]
And
my issue with thrush seem to be
getting better after taking a second
dose of meds this week...
P H E W ...
All of July has been quite the
journey for us....
😷😷
Looking forward to a hopefully
issue-free August...
***************************
Meanwhile....
I have been reading blogs and
following my Youtubers while
recuperating....

When I began feeling a bit better
began to cut 1.5" strips
for some proposed
"Lego" works....

Not sure as yet what I will make, but
I am cutting all my usable scraps
and leftover bindings...

Just cutting a bit at a time as
standing for long times
is an issue for me these days...

I am using a combination of my die cutter
and rotary cutting
for the special smaller pieces.
If I don't want any waste and to use
all of a favorite fabric that I can,
I find that rotary works better...
I am fussy cutting images also...

Here is the start of my collection
below overflowing from a baggie
into this container...;)))
↴↴↴↴↴
I may do totally "scrappy" or
color themed--but for now,
just cutting strips...

I am not really "sewing" anything
much--just  sewing leftover
jelly roll strips into sets to make
some placemats with matching
runners...
My energy level has not as yet
returned to normal...

When I awoke this morning, I found this
on my sewing room door:
MY DH is so funny.....

Try to stay cool in this heat wave....

A SHORT BREAK....

"Helena Hydrangea" is coming into bloom....

FYI:
I am taking care of my husband after his
carotid artery surgery last Thursday...
And
I am dealing with my own
case of nasty "Thrush"
at the same time...
So no sewing going on...

"SUMMER FANS", et al

In going through my stash, picking out destash
fabrics, I found these little fans hiding away in
my "blues" stack ....
{Oh my gosh, I had forgotten
all about these
little cuties!!"}....
They just inspired me...
And....
I decided that everybody needs a "fan" in this
heat wave ;)))

and so....

I picked some cool greens; went into my
greens little
"bits and bobs" baggie; and
made some "strippies" to put
between
my little blocks.
and for the
1/4 corner arcs...

The only fabric that comes from a 1/2 yd stash piece
is the final border.....
********************************
And speaking of my stash...

I have been "halving" all my fabrics for donating
to a few quilters who make donation quilts...
Since I am no longer able to handle making
big quilts I decided that
I would give some
fabrics to people
who will use them...so
many can enjoy the fruits of their labors..
šŸ˜
And
I still have a lot left, believe me....
šŸ‘€šŸ˜®šŸ‘€

I have gone through 5 major colors and
have four left from the
color coded stacks
I had set up...
And....
[this does not take into account
any boxes or coordinating
fabric lines that I have hoarded :
eg. my "Ghastlies" line
which I plan to use for my grand girls'
project in the "thinking stages"
right now ...etc etc!!!]

Plus I just got a lovely pkg from
Quiltdivajulie of tone-on-tones
that is just amazing...
thanks you so much QDJulie
for your generous gift...
šŸ’šŸ’–šŸ’“

*********************************
Since i have to be resting my hands from actual
stitching...I have set up the next two
pages in my batting book ready
to be stitched when I can....
This whole book uses just cut offs and scraps....
of favorite fabrics
that I have accumulated a long time
and want to remember..
It should be fun paging through this
book and seeing them all....

"Moonrise Over Water"

"Ocean Flower"

These are the next on my list
to be worked on...
For now they are just resting on my little
corner table....
***********************

It is 91.2 degrees with a
"feels like" temp of 101.8 out there...
[We are staying in our AC...]
This keeps on going "UP"-it is
now only 3:15p.m.--

At least the dew point has dropped
off a bit to 75--
Uhhh????
Did I say "dropped off"????
Imagine that, everything is
relative, I guess...

Stay cool everyone, and hydrate....

DAYLILIES TIMES 4...

So far, four of my daylilies have bloomed....

This mauve one is especially pretty,
I think...

this is the first time the lavender one
has bloomed for me...;)))

Here is my all-time favorite one...it has 20 or so buds on it
ready to burst into flower...
They are all in my front garden and along my front walkway...
We are expecting rain this evening so
perhaps many others will follow suit...

BATTING BOOK CONTINUES.....et al

Pages 3 & 4 of my batting book journey:
I call:
"Japanese Autumn"

A closer look at my stitching around
these cut out and laid on circles...
Little vignettes cut from a favorite
older fabric...

I did more stitching on this page than the
facing one...

Here, I felt that the lovely cloth
spoke for itself and I didn't
need to add anything more....

I am continuing to do two page
spreads
throughout this book...

Here is the beginning of the
next two pages
{5 &6}
pinned in place...
↧↧↧↧
The "roses" fabrics
and the center piece of linen napkin
have been coffee dyed by me....

I will invisible baste all the pieces in place
before deciding on any stitching....
these fabrics "cross" over the pages...
with the double circle in the center...

*************************
It is so HOT and HUMID
here again today....
I will go out for a short trip
to the post office to mail off
birthday cards to my twin
grandsons who turn
21!!!!!!!!!
on the 13th of this month...
😨😯

How did this happen
so quickly?????

I will go.....
From car AC to
 P.O. AC
and then back to
home AC...

************************
Tonight's menu is leftover
chicken and rice casserole
from Saturday's meal...
so no cooking...
