I worked this morning on die cutting:
3 sizes of strips--
2", 1.5" and 1";
5" squares,
Lg. 1/4 sq triangles,
and small 1/4 sq triangles.
All using my dies...
the little leftover pieces
I will then sub-cut into 2.5", 2" and 1.5"
squares...
Since I have so much trouble
these days with rotary work
I've decided to pre-cut
my fabrics into usable
sizes....beginning with
this bin of Batiks
below
Here is the bin of batiks I've collected
and
NEVER USED!!!!!
This is all part and parcel of my cutting back
(no pun intended haha)
on my fabric stash
and paper crafting supplies...
Here are some boxes I've already
emptied:
to Heart Springs and
more will be donated as I decide what
to keep and what to de-stash...
I really think it is so very
DIFFICULT to
"Let things go"....
A lot of these items date back
from when I first started to quilt...
At this point in my life, there is
no way I'll ever ever use it all up!!
So, I am hoping that
someone else can
put the stuff to good use...
I worked for 1 and 1/2 hours with
resting breaks of 5 minutes...here
and there...
PHEW...
("We have only just begun..." as
my song for all occasions).
A little bit each day--with time
to sit and survey how my
room is set up....
and will now be set up
on a much smaller scale.
We would like to move our
treadmill in here from its
present position in the bedroom...

we shall see if she will favor
us with any blooms...

Good for you, Julierose. Mom came over a couple of weeks ago and we worked all day organizing my craft stuff. I'm having a hard time deciding what to let go but I know I'll never use it all either. Cutting the fabrics down is a great idea. Your amaryllis are sure showing off....so pretty.
ReplyDeleteWow! You are making wonderful progress cutting things up and giving things away. That looks like some lovely batik fabric. I've been trying to use up my fabric by making donation quilts. The only problem with that is that once the fabric is used I still have to make it into a quilt so I'm not culling things very quickly.

I'm astounded, you have a bin full of beautiful batiks and you have never used them!
ReplyDeleteI just spent an hour or so yesterday standing at my cutting board too, cutting strips for my daughter's big birthday quilt, and also strips for one for me I'm planning on stitching at the same time.
There is some satisfaction in cleaning up and getting things moved out. It's just that it's not fun and more like a chore! I got rid of a lot of stuff when I got a real sewing room. I finally got everything in one place and was a bit surprised at just how much I had accumulated. I try not to buy too much but sometimes I can't help it! Love your blossoms! That recipe looks good. Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteYour Amaryllis has been a great bloomer! I hope the wax one will bloom for you too. None of the bulbs I saved from last year have sent up a bud stalk.
I went to a quilt show today and they had a large section of stuff that had been donated by members - a lot of old fabric and tools. All I could think was that I need to get into my sewing room and do a deep clean and declutter because I don’t want my old stuff showing up at a garage sale after I am gone ��. I do enjoy decluttering but it feels like I could do it weekly and still have too much unused stuff.

I'm about to begin a tidy up of my fabric storage system, and I think I should take on board your example and cut sizes I pretty much know I'll use, maybe get a little busier with making the quilts then.

ReplyDeleteThat is marvelous, Julierose. I really really need to do the same...a deep dive and clean out in the sewing room. I have a problem too with "letting go". But it looks like you have made an excellent start there. Lovely flower and blooming. And my that Taco ring looks delicious!!

ReplyDeleteI know it's important to you to destash, but this week I was looking for ---something---and found all my c. 2000? old Kaffee Fasset prints, stored away when I began following quilt groups online and learned to use dull sad CW repros instead. The old prints are classic, just what my Bramble Berries wants and needs. I am so enjoying being loud, bright, eye wateringly busy again---and didn't have to buy any fabric at all. [did taxes yesterday and new frugality must MUST be how I live going forward, I saw.]
That said I have Picotee bookmarked for next year's winter blooms. It is stunning, what a joy.
The taco ring looks so good. Was it tasty too? I want to make it.

I agree that rotary cutting isn't the easiest thing to do which probably is partly the reason I'm not a 'sane' quilter.

Julierose, I have to ask. Do you love your cutter? Is it easy to put away and get out again? Does it take up much space? Is it a hassle if you don't have the dies you need for a block you want to make, or do you choose to make blocks that fit the dies you have? Is it an AccuQuilt Go or a different one?
ReplyDeleteI agree, it is very difficult to let things go. But I need to start passing things along, too. The past few days I've been telling myself that nothing new can come in unless something old goes out. Can I stick to that? I'm not sure.
How was your taco ring? I hope you and your husband loved it! Is the white part tortilla or bread?
