I STILL have scrap bags LEFT!!
that are
a good 1/2 full of reds and greens...
[Plus...a whole container of 1/4 yds
of Holiday themed fabrics...
for future projects]
Some of these scraps date from the time I began
quilting...around 40 yrs ago!!!
I've begun sewing the scraps from the
Christmas Ojos Flimsy cut offs into
slabs for place mats to go with
this table topper...
{craziness for sure!!--but, I
just cannot
throw those scraps away}
I am sewing the really
small pieces along
longer strips and then
building from these into
"Franken-Slabs" for
the place mats.
Needless to say, this will be
an ongoing project for just
"sewing for the sake of sewing"

A few days ago we purchased a
Rhoomba and are busy having
it "map" the layout of our rooms...
I've named her:
"Rochelle, Rochelle"
[you older "Seinfeld" fans will
recognize this I am sure]
:)))))
We thought this would be a good purchase
for us, as both of our backs are not
happy with vacuuming these days.
It will not, of course, take the place of using
our cleaner, but we think that it
will cut down the number of times
we will have to do a "deeper" clean...

I made a Shepherd's pie for
our supper this evening--
and the leftovers will serve as
Sunday's meal also...
Love casseroles that can
do "double duty" for us.

Well, my ironing board died this
afternoon...it just collapsed --
luckily I had only piled some fabric
to be ironed on it
and had put my
iron away--
(amazing as that sounds!!)

So, I am in the market for a new one...
Anyone have any suggestions for
a good, inexpensive one?

Love your flimsy, so pretty in those colors! And look at all the yummy scraps! How fun to have fabrics dating 40 years back! I'm sure you'll sew them into something. Hope your new Rhoomba works as you want it to do. Let us know.
ReplyDeleteI had a friend who loved her Rhoomba and thought it did a great job. I hate vacuuming. I think I'd rather clean a bathroom! Not sure why but I do!! Love the Christmas Ojos. The fabrics all blend so nicely. I love Shepherd's Pie. Enjoy!!

ReplyDeleteYour Christmas Ojos is so colorful and invigorating. I love it! It feels good to use up all those scraps but why is it that the pile never gets smaller? I'm sewing away at my Thimbleberries stash and it just feels like the folded fabric pile is not going down.

ReplyDeleteYour Ojos top looks wonderful. I love how you created a center of mostly greens. I think it draws the eye and creates even more interest in a quilt with so many small pieces.
ReplyDeleteI have trouble throwing away small pieces, too. But I really have to start culling....
I have a theory that scraps multiply when left alone (sort of like mice or rabbits) which is why we never run out.
How is your Rhoomba? Do you love it? Is it hard to "program" or teach?
How sad to have an ironing board die. It's usually my iron. My ironing board is an old wooden one which I hope lasts me the rest of my lifetime. Could you find one at a thrift store or a garage sale (in the spring/summer)? Or maybe you have a table that you could pile with a few layers of old wool blankets and use for now?
The ojos is eye-catching (how appropriate). As much as we try to use up ALL the scraps we never seem to be able to (unless it's that one fabric that we really, really need a little piece of right now). Years ago I read a women's magazine article about "call them planned-overs instead of leftowvers." I bought an ironing board for my new upstairs sewing station (which is going to be long-term, I'm afraid) at Wal-Mart. It's not as sturdy as the one in the studio which I got when we got married in 1980. (That one has harvest-gold legs!)
ReplyDeleteokay - i wasn't a watcher of Seinfeld, so i don't get the Rochelle reference, but Rochelle IS my middle name and i'm not sure if naming your vacuum Rochelle is a good thing or a bad thing ... i'm gonna go with good - it can't be worse than what my mom WAS gonna name me till my dad put the kibosh to it - ha ha ha
ReplyDeleteYour Ojos topper looks fantastic, love the colors. Making place mats with the leftover scraps is a great idea. I had to replace my ironing board recently. I got a Better Homes and Gardens one from Walmart. It is big, which I like for ironing larger pieces of fabric. Now, you've made me want shepherd's pie, so I'll add it to this weekend's menu.
