I am doing wonky little log cabins....
set in two rows....
I just finished my 1st row row today...
[you can see I've set up the
next four little centers
across the top....]
We have to leave a background
border
on all sides of about
1.5"-2" for joining
the blocks...month by month...
K3N is doing her blocks scattered
"cattywampus" about her cloth using
wedge shapes where they join...
Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, s i g h ...........
I began that way last Wednesday and
by Friday had ripped them all out.

Working that way just made me
SO
VERY
ANXIOUS!!
This is supposed to be a cloth
to calm you down when you are
working it;
so,
I decided to
do my blocks in normal--if a
bit wonky, rows,
I am just free cutting
my fabrics
as I work along to fit
So all the blocks vary in size...
The background is 10" x 18"
so about 1/2 the size of the 1st block
[which is 18"x18"].

I've begun adding some more
stitching with radiating lines
on January's block...
I am using whipped
running stitches...
and...
There is still a lot more stitching to
add onto Block #1...

Can you believe that there are now
3 blooms and one bud still left
to open on my Amaryllis...
??????????

Here, 3 have fully opened...
and the front one has a slight
greenish tinge to it...
over the Summer to bloom
again next season.....it is so spectacular...

ReplyDeleteI love your Log Cabins! And subtle color palette on this project. I can't quite envision where it's going, as a full quilt--I'm interested to watch it progress.
ReplyDeleteThe amie is stunning, striped and ruffled. Easy to regrow, my Big Red is proof, year 8-ish.
Oh, I'm all for stitching that makes you less anxious. January's block is looking beautiful with the addition of the whipped and running stitches. I'm looking forward to seeing where your February block leads you. Those little log cabins are looking great. And the Amaryllis, it's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYour cabins look great. Isn't it interesting how one technique is calming for one person but not for another? I think I would be like you and feel anxious working the way someone else does. I think that's the challenge of Bramble Blooms--working as Audrey does and not as I do. But then, trying something new expands us, too. (But only if it doesn't bring on anxiety!)

ReplyDeleteWe definitely don't want to be anxious when we're stitching! I have some Valdani thread and I love it too. I really should order some more colours at some point.

ReplyDeleteI like the idea of wonky and spontaneous but I need a bit more restraint in my own stitching. I do like that K3n says You do you. Great advice.

ReplyDeleteI was thinking of making a log cabin quilt so it was fun to read about your project. I think we all have our own way to sewing. I can't do wonky! Some of these challenges just make me anxious so I just do my own thing! Your flowers look beautiful! Your embroidery is a great way to embellish your blocks.
ReplyDeleteI love the log cabin block. I've never made wonky ones before but have liked some I've seen others make. Glad you found a way to make them that won't cause you stress or anxiety. Your amaryllis is gorgeous.
