the wonkiest log cabins I've ever made
above...
and all by hand and eye only...
tearing strips as I went...

The catty-wampus cabins will attach
to the January block like this:

[I may add some sashing? ]
Not sure yet and I still have 2 weeks
to finish the added fancy stitching
and sort of "boro" style
mending where needed :
at the
wonky joinings...
on those little cabins....
[and speaking of "Wonky" --

I plan to extend the
January block's radiating lines
where they meet
when I sew them
together...
It's pretty "dense" looking.....
But it is all a "learning" experience
isn't it....;)))
It will take me quite a while to
do stitching on these ;
my hands are much better, I
am happy to report;
but I am
trying to do short stints
and taking
whole days off from working...

I am really itching to just stitch
for hours, but
no longer can I do that!!
I am just happy to be able
to do a little
at all.

ReplyDeleteOh yes, the 'Wonky Donkey' granny is well known in this house and our grandies have the book. It's time I watched her again, thank you for the reminder.
Your wonky log cabins are perfect together with your other block. Maybe a dark (black?) narrow sashing? Glad your hands are doing better and you are able to hand sew. I hope your amaryllis makes it and shows off its beauty. Stay safe and warm! Before you know it's spring and snow gone!

ReplyDeleteI will hazard a guess that the forgotten amaryllis is probably not bloom this year. However, if you keep it growing, give it bright light (or put in outside in a shared area during the summer), and feed it regularly (weak liquid every two weeks), it will gain strength and possibly bloom next spring, after a resting period (not a whole year in a dark closet, though). I'm glad your hands cooperated to let you do a little hand stitching.

Just picking up the reins with my blog reading and hopefully later today a post!! Liking your wonky log cabins, rich and moody colour. Fingers crossed for the poor little Amaryllis, you could well be surprised with a bloom or two.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it interesting how the period of my life where I have the most time, I have less ability. I'm glad you're able to sew a little at a time. It gives so much satisfaction. That amaryllis is doing it's best. Sure glad it's still alive. I'll have to go check K3N Cloth Tales out. Have a lovely day!
ReplyDeleteSashing will separate the 2 blocks where no sashing lets them blend in. I guess you will only know if you lay it out with sashing and see if you like it.
ReplyDeleteOne of the 2 Amaryllis (that I had outside all summer and then in the dark in the garage for 3 months) has a bud stalk starting to grow. Both bulbs sent up leaves that are quite tall now so I wasn't sure there was any energy left for a bud. It still might dry up so I won't get too excited yet.
