Nor'Easter aftermath

 Having fun:  my four grandchildren and my daughter have been staying with us as they have no power...no time to post, sew, breathe:  instead:  a gazillion batches of laundry, card games, long walks to the beach, sleeping bags, baseball cards, drawings.... and visits to Mom in nursing home... etc....will be back soon...Julierose, La Blageuse

Shhhhh Saturday...

Rainy Day thoughts: And so, I ask myself "Why"? Do you?

No Pix/ just thoughts that have been whirling in my brain....

After finishing the quilting on my "Wonky Crows, Cats & Crosses", I cannot even hold a glass without dropping it! (Never mind practicing my piano)... Talk about sore hands; and so...inevitably I  have asked myself why am I making these thick, big, difficult to handle quilt tops....and for whom? 
Actually:

I love the process:  choosing the fabrics, actually sewing the blocks, and watching the whole come together... even basting...but my arthritic  hands are telling me to find an alternative...and so, "What" now comes into play...and so..after all, life is change...

I have enrolled in an online class to learn a different way to use up my fabrics and put them together for an easier-to-manage outcome.  I will post when I have some  finished products...and for the next few days: rest, read. cook, walk and think some more...

Slow Sunday--Ahhhhh.....

I spent yesterday sorting, re-containering (word??) my fabric and half-made, test pieces...and I came upon my stash of 70's hand dyed fabrics and sun prints that I did for about 1 year and then packed away...life intruded, as ever, and I had really forgotten about them..

Decided to use them in hand sewn, slow works..here is the start of one that will be a gift for a cherished friend of many years: (all fabrics but the little sliver of blue/white lined piece are my own hand dyed)(Thank you Jude for your marvelous site--you have inspired me to follow my forgotten path...)

Journal Entry Thoughts: 

I am thinking about the two sides of my life:  my own personal duality:  The outward-facing woman, tightly held together--able to cope.  Then the inner "girl-child-woman" who is hole-y as in Swiss Cheese inside; (Where is the poem I once wrote about that??)  My cloth that I am now working on....should reflect that two-sided reality of my being......perfection/imperfection.  Neatly pieced copied pattern vs. frayed, torn, shredded, fiery inner soul.....

Here is one of the fragments of a "just testing" Flying Geese" that coincidentally (amazingly!!) is just the same length as my working cloth above:

Well, here is the birth announcement I stitched for my new ganddaughter--

I did it all in redwork, even though this is a sampler from Charlotte Lyons  (note the baby's middle name--isn't that serendipitous) at housewren studio--I LUV her stuff--sooo outrageously cute!!  And, I think it also translates into redwork really well....

I entered my granddog's name on the doggie " 'Kota" and all I have left to stitch is the EXACT time of the birth...going up today to see my new little sweetie and will find that out.....

Still need to decide if I want to border it or just frame it.  10 x 10 is not a usual frame size--so will have to figure this out....anyone have suggestions....??

Welcome granddaughter, Fiona Charlotte

I just became a grandmother again--number Five--my second granddaughter-- my son's first child-- arrived on Saturday at 9:53 am.  We are so excited. 

 Will post pix as soon as I get them.....now -- quick-like-a -bunny--to finish up that birth record  (from House Wren Studio} .
