I have begun stitching my
"Little Farm Girl"
Aren't her red overalls fun?
So old-fashioned looking;)))
Did you wear overalls when
you were little?
I sure did...and bib overalls were
popular when I was a teenager, too.

When I saw Wanda's [click to see]
Arboretum blocks mounting up I
was smitten...
Totally smitten!!!!
I mean they are SO gorgeous;
and isn't it all about having fun,
feeling passionate about
what you are doing?
( Well, That's my story and I
am sticking with it!!)
Here are my first four blocks:

I will be using all batiks to
try to use up my big box of them...
I find them a bit "Fiddly" to make--
no surprise here==
as I am totally
angle challenged
as you long time
readers know...
AND
SO.............
I will have to be trimming them up
to the smallest one
when I have finished them all
as I cannot make them come out
all the same size....

I am making two at a time using the
same background and varying
the limbs and trunks....
The cutting in preparation is the hardest for
me right now, as standing and cutting
for any length of time is still
a hassle...but
I am getting better and
sitting in between.
Taking it
SLOW and EASY...

We are in a mini heat wave here
and the dewpoints are in the
70's every day.
So, we have been going
out to the Field where
we walk really early--
luckily they open up at 8 a.m.
It sure does feel good to get
back to our AC in our house, though..

I wore bib overalls when I was in college - not nearly as cute as that little girl you're stitching, though! I'm intrigued by those Arboretum blocks, too. I definitely agree that you should sew whatever suits your fancy and have fun with it!
ReplyDeleteThe little embroidered girl is cute. I had only one pair of overalls, rose-pink pinwale corduroy--age 3 maybe. I still have them! But they no longer fit.

I had to put the AC on for Mo, who instead wants to sit outside in the hot sun. "Kids"! yeesh.
I love your little farm girl, but can say, no, I've never worn overalls in my life.
ReplyDeleteI never wore overalls despite growing up on a farm, but my dad never wore them either so I guess that explains it. Mind you, had I had the option of wearing cute red ones I would have!

That "Little Farm Girl" is adorable. I never wore overalls myself, but my daughter loved them as a toddler. Enjoy stitching the trees. I like the fabrics that you are using. Stay cool.

ReplyDeleteMy younger brother and I were often dressed alike in Sandyalls which were bib overalls. He was big for his age and I was average for my age so I think we wore the same size. I never had bib overalls as a teen or grownup though.
ReplyDeleteYou could cut your beginning piece a little larger to assure enough to trim on the Arboretum blocks. I found out on the first batch I made that there was very little to trim so I had to be careful piecing. Your blocks will be pretty in all batiks.
