Here is my little idea sketch...
for
Audrey's "Bramble QAL".
I did 3 or 4 different ones and
chose this as my finalist.
Sort of, little burgeoning crocuses
in a clay pot...
[or is it crocusii?]....
Way different from my normal
pieced projects style...π
THEN
I realized I had to enlarge it!!
HUH!!!
πΊ
And this is where my
"Perfectionist" brain took over
for two whole days
[and nights, I might add!!]
I pondered how to do it....
I knew there was the graph
square method to
size up and all
but it didn't appeal to me....
too painstaking and time
consuming...not fun
And I am determined to
have "fun" while learning in this QAL!
Then, as I sat staring out the
window not seeing really.....and
sipping my morning coffee....
I thought :
Oh, why not just freehand
the thing....
draw it bigger by eye--
how bad could it be--
??????????????
ππ
Then I decided
Just Do IT!!
It's just paper after all
and isn't this the whole
OBJECT of this QAL?
So.....
I drew it on an 8x10
piece of copy paper
by eye....ππππ
pretty quickly, not trying
to overthink, it
like I normally do...
Understand....
I am in no way any kind of artist,
so I closed off any idea of
exact reproduction and
WENT FOR IT!!!
My "loosey-goosey" interpretation....
Here are the relative sizes:
I have a whole new respect for
quilters who see an old quilt and
then reproduce it and
make templates....
Next
I will figure out
the basket ==
so both sides
match up...
Oh, and I found a container to
store everything in:
"My Bramble Box"
1st hurdle overcome...
Y E S!!!;)))))

DH is out for his daily walk--
i am now trying to figure out what to make
for our supper;
Isn't life just full of decisions--
big, medium and small ones???
We had DH's spaghetti last
evening and there are noodles
leftover, so I may fry them up
with onions, garlic, herbs
and throw in some shrimp for
my meal.
A definite "gibblot";))))
He says he will use
the rest of the leftover sauce and
meatballs over rice --
just enough for one...
We often "do our own thing"
for dinners...
I am so lucky to have such a
wonderful husband who likes
to cook πππ
*****************************
At noon, we will be watching
the Brazilian Grand Prix...
That's the story so far today;
I hope your Sunday is
a wonderful one....
Hugs, Julierose,
La Blageuse

P.S. is anyone else feeling like a
"Cranky-Pants" with this time change over????
We definitely areπΏ

I love seeing your design process. I kept rooting for you: "Just draw it bigger!" Tho if you do need anything resized, rem Staples will do that for you, not very expensively. Plus your printer should enlarge up to 200%, then start again, enlarge the enlarged piece.
ReplyDeleteAnd as you do the actual placement of your flowers with and on fabric, you can always tweak an angle, add a stem or leaf. This is a starting point. And it's darling!
I'm still hoping to get a beach walk in but forgot that today is a cooking day planned. Roast beef, pappardelle noodles [egg noodles], gravy, delicata squash, apple galette. This will last a very long time. A small roast becomes economical [I am having to eat red meat now], if I make sandwiches, salad, stirfry, or stroganoff as the week goes by. Your dinners sound delish!
Do you sew or crochet while watching TV?
love

I like your design! I'm sure you'll figure out how to get it done. I personally would use freezer paper but everyone has their own preferred way of getting things done. I'm so tired trying to figure out what to make for dinner. My mother decides the day before. I'm not organized enough to do that!
ReplyDeleteThe enlarged drawing looks great!
ReplyDeleteI realized that I sometimes do a small drawing and then, instead of drawing large, I cut out paper shapes and place them on the background. Then I already have the patterns instead of cutting up fabric into shapes I'm not sure I want.
I wonder how much more applique there will be on this quilt....
Loved your post today and watching your creative process. You've got more artistic talent than you give yourself credit for. This design will make a great centerpiece for the BB quilt.
ReplyDeleteI'm still dithering around with ideas and trying to make a decision. I was in bed yesterday with the after effects of my Covid immunization. In my feverish state I kept trying to come up with an idea for this quilt. It wasn't an ideal time for thought provoking creativity. I'll focus on it again tomorrow.
You have a great start there! Trust your instincts and just go for the gold!
ReplyDeleteYou have a great start there! Trust your instincts and just go for the gold!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job making it bigger! What a fun race it was today. Crazy crashing start (and before the start!) and then what a finish for 3+4. Aidan is already sad there is only 2 more races this season. I did a clear out things roasted veggies (peppers, last of the potato, some onion and zucchini) and then some baked catfish for Aidan. I had a leftover baked potato and the zucchini.
ReplyDeleteI find that sometimes when you redraw something larger the second drawing comes out better than the first one. It looks like you have a good start on your QAL project.
ReplyDeleteI might be tempted to do the blossoms as raw edge and the stems as either needle turn or machine appliquΓ©. And who says your basket has to be the same on both sides? Gwen and Freddy certainly didn't! The dinner time dilemma . . . happens here, too.
ReplyDeleteLove the basket especially! I I'm with Julie, the basket doesn't have to be the same on both sides.:)
ReplyDeleteI made a real life basket and it is crooked and a little wobbly but it is useful and the fun was in making it. Don't worry about perfection! I think your basket of flowers is charming.
ReplyDeleteHubby has Gtube for the rest of his life. He used to be the cook and we used to grow all sorts of veggies in the garden for our epicurean delights. And now it is me cooking for me and wondering what I will grow in place of half the veggies next year. And I have to cook for myself now. Not easy to cook epicurean delightts for just one!
I really like you basket of flowers for your Bramble quilt! My husband doesn’t cook, but he gives me ideas for meals, which I have a hard time coming up with.
ReplyDeleteA basket of crocii is a great idea! In my perusing of the interwebs, I did see a few ideas that included a pot-type base, but ended up going another direction. As for your symmetrical basket, I wouldn't worry too much. Real baskets aren't perfect, are they? So yours doesn't need to be either!
ReplyDeleteLoosey-Goosey is good!! I've been fiddling about trying to work out exactly which design to go with and also the size.
ReplyDeleteI love the pot of crocuses idea! Really relate to the overthinking brain when it comes to this kind of territory. That reminded me of how I cut out three poppy petals before it was finally a good size for the background. And I might have intended to needle turn the flowers too, but would've lost a quarter inch all around and had to recut them yet again. So "go big...bigger...even bigger!" was the lesson there, lol. Sorry about the thumb incident. I've come very close myself a couple times. Heal fast!
