CHRISTMAS NUTCRACKER PROMPT, et al

Our 2nd sets of prompts for the
September Fabric Journal pages
are:
 "Nutcracker" and
"Winter Mushrooms".

Above  is my proposed base
for my version of a Nutcracker,,

[I must admit that I am not a big
fan of Nutcrackers--
to me they always
looked kinda scarey!!]
πŸ’‚πŸ‘Ώ

So I decided to make a happier
Nutcracker person...
A Lady one :))))
under the Moon...
[Lotsa little pieces to baste down]

***************************
As far as "Winter Mushrooms go,
I am still pondering that one...
😦😲
***********************
Meanwhile, I have been
continuing to hand quilt a bit
while watching the end of
baseball
season...
my poor Red Sox are
in disarray this year...😭

UFOs AND OJOS

Since I only have
5 more side blocks
to hand quilt on my
Autumn Ojos---

I took out this Ojos which
is the next UFO in line
to be hand quilted:
↯↯↯↯
This is my
"Summertime Ojos"
To be truthful, I had totally
forgotten it (gasp!!).
😨
It has been hanging in my spare room
closet just waiting and waiting....
So-----
This morning I set it up to be pinned
on my dining room table

Here is the backing I have chosen to use--
Isn't it pretty?😍

I know that fabric was gifted to me from a fellow
blogger; but sadly, (ye old brain drain!!)
I cannot remember who that kind person was...
😭

At any rate--
I thank you πŸ‘„,as I really don't have
many BIG pieces that can be used
whole for backings...
this is perfect because it is non-directional
and I love its hand-dyed look...

****************************
So this Summer, I have been
hand quilting the Autumn piece above
and
This coming Winter I will be working
on this Summer piece.

*******************************
I have decided that I will NOT make
any new pieces, but rather work on
the UFO's in my closet...

An especially good idea
as I can only really sit for
15 min at a go these days
and
truthfully, it drives me up a wall
to have to leave things in the middle!!
πŸ‘ΏπŸ‘ΊπŸ‘Ή

There are only two really big
quilts hanging in my closet
 that I haven't donated:

One is the Flying Geese
under the Moon;
and the 2nd
is a huge log cabin in two
big sections--just about King Size
(what was I thinking?).
All the other pieces are smaller in size...

I really want to keep the big Flying Geese
one, it just heeds binding--perhaps I
will be able to manage that as my
back heals more...

***************************
I hope you are all enjoying these last
precious Summery days left to us...
A bit on the coolish side here, but
such beautiful blue skies are a treat.

JOURNAL WINTER PAGES IN PROGRESS

"Snow Lady"
is my rendition for
the Snowman prompt
in
"Roxy's Winter Fabric Journal".

I decided to make
a Snow Lady by
adding a flower and a bead
to her hat...;)))

I may add some more snowflakes
across the top,
but for now I am done with
working on this one...

***********************
I set up the 2nd prompt--
which is
"Winter Landscape"

this morning...
⇣⇣⇣⇣⇣
Birches always make me
think of Winter...

AND SO....
For
this block base, I crazy
quilted fancy fabrics first
across the bare base page;
and
then I
laid the birches and little scene
over that --finishing with that
lacey bit at the top...
all pinned in place.

I will
be basting it all down
and adding
some embroidery
this week...

I like the cool effect of
the crazy quilted background
peeking through
this scene..

I hope your Sunday has been
a good one; it is sprinkling
here and muggy outside ...

Setting up my Winter scene has
kept me cool inside...

A quiet
57th Wedding Anniversary
for us today..

SEPTEMBER FABRIC JOURNAL PROMPTS

Prompts for September:
"Christmas Snowman"
"Winter Woods"

Above is the first prompt
my Christmas
Snow "Lady" base.
;)))))

I want to add a funky
flower rosette to
her chapeaux
and some little charms....

I had fun putting this
one together this morning
and
I sat here to baste it all down
this afternoon:
↧↧↧↧
On our front patio
beneath our Pagoda umbrella.

This is the first day that it has been
cool enough

(and I was able)
to
sit here in
my favorite little
reading, sewing or just
sipping "after lunch tea"
S P O T
πŸ’–

*********************
Our 57th Wedding Anniversary
will be this coming this Sunday.

I got a surprise "early" gift from
my darling Tom

Isn't it pretty??
I just
L O V E it!!
πŸ’‹πŸ’–
It has a nice size dial for these
aging eyes....and is
encased in rose gold..
my favorite of the precious
metals...

***********************
I had mentioned before that my poor
fledgling magnolia tree had lost
just about all its leaves
and didn't look too happy..
I wondered if it would even
survive this drought!
BUT
All it took was one inch of
good steady, soft rain two
days ago and look what it
is doing....
πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
Putting on a little show of blossoms again for us...
A M A Z I N G!!
[You can see how our lawn has turned so
brittle and dry--it crackles when you
walk on it,,,, ugh]

**************************
Dinner this evening will be:
Meatloat, mashed potatoes,
applesauce and zucchini squash.

MELANGE WORKING DREAMS

I removed these two
"sticky-outie" blocks;

[thanks, Lizzie, for your
good "eye" on these]

 and I
made these to mix in...
INSTEAD
⇊⇊⇊

AND THIS ONE
↓↓↓

I think they balance out the
rest better???

What do you think..??
I mean it definitely is
A MELANGE!!
πŸ˜…
This is not the final
set up; they are just up on
the wall so I
can re-arrange them--
about a gazillion times!!
;))))

In particular those yellows --
could they be corner holders?

Or in a diagonal
going down the length?

Or just sprinkled haphazardly?

I can see my dreams will be filled
with the final possible arrangement.

Do you "sleep on it"?

My Grand-mere used to
suggest doing that
about any
problem or question...

Hugs, beneath my bumbershoot
today,

PEAR OJOS, et al

Starting my 3rd
"side" block on Pear Ojos;
8 more to go to the finish...
;)))

V e r y
s l o w
hand quilting...
just a few strips each day.

*************************
All 30 Melange blocks are sewn now.

This probably will not be the final
arrangement; but I
wanted to get them all sewn and
ready to play with  on my
design wall before
my next Fabric Journal prompt
arrives this Wednesday...

*******************************
It is a grey, muggy and hot Labor Day
here on the CT shore...
Another AC day for sure....

I hope you all have enjoyed this
long weekend...

I always feel that Autumn has
begun after Labor Day despite
the actual date of the
Autumnal  Equinox--
this must be leftover
from all those years
going to and teaching
school, I guess...

THURSDAY THOUGHT, et al

QUESTION

Body my House
my horse my hound
what will I do
when you are fallen

Where will I sleep
How will I ride
What will I hunt

Where can I go
without my mount
all eager and quick
How will I know
in thicket ahead
its danger or treasure
when Body my good
bright dog is dead

How will it be
to lie in the sky
without roof or door
and wind for an eye
With cloud shift
how will I hide?

--May Swenson--

********************************
MELANGE

The yellows will be brightening
this group up....
I have 5 more to make
which will give me 30 blocks for
a 5 x 6 layout.
*********************************
:)))))))
It was only 58 degrees at 6:30 and
cool this morning upon arising.
This will be a deck sitting morning
and some outdoor hand quilting time.

Hugs,
Julierose
