I altered this old cookbook to become my
next few months'
Planner/Journal..
I removed at least 2/3rds of the pages and then glued two pages together throughout
for strength.
The front inner cover has a pocket I made to house two pens (black and white inks)
and some papers ....
Here are a sampling of some altered pages: In this one I am tearing papers from
magazines, deli papers, and my dried teabag holders also....
I am leaving the original
illustrations for food
throughout as they are in
such beautiful colors....
and I can write around them..
I am collaging throughout these pages; and I
will be doodling,
writing thoughts,
and ideas for future projects....
I've set up my months like this:
HERE IS: ↥↥↥ J U L Y 's calendar....to be filled in...
AND below....
A sampling of how I can write on collaged papers ⇊⇊⇊
Using illustrations from many magazines, old books,
as well as fabric scraps here and there;
on some pages I will be using
Gesso and then watercolor washes.....
The TORN edges mirror my feelings and thoughts
about our world in these difficult days.....just writing in my normal
Franklin is not enough for now....
***********************************************
I hope you are finding some outlets for your emotions --I find that this kind of
solitary work and writing {along with my sewing} helps me to deal with all of this....
What kind of a world are we in?????

I'm wondering the same thing, Juierose! 2020 has been awful so far. I'm hoping things will improve. So tired of everything being so negative. Your journal is a wonderful outlet. We all need something!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I have never been one to journal and have tried. Maybe making a fun journal like yours would motivate me. Enjoy using your creation!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful project! I wish I had a better understanding of how to go about it---tho I suppose I do not have an old book to use anyway. But very very inspiring. And beautiful.
ReplyDeleteVery clever way of making a journal. I love it, so unique. I have the same question as you...very sad at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI glad that you have found a beautifully creative outlet for expressing yourself in words. There are so many people who dont have the gift of finding creative nonviolent means, so very sad for them who have no Hope.
ReplyDeleteOh this is amazing!! You are so very clever and inventive with your Altered books, I wouldn't know where to start with creating one of these as you do.
ReplyDeleteGlad you have your journal as an outlet. It is a crazy upside down world these days isnt it.
ReplyDeletei love altered books. I even started one.
ReplyDeletetorn - that's the perfect word for how I feel about where we are.
This looks wonderful! I'm so glad you showed us. I have a question - what sort of glue did you use to glue the pages together? I think a lot of glues would end up warping the pages, so I'm curious. And....what a great use for a cookbook that otherwise would be recycled (and not in a good way).
ReplyDeleteYour journal is gorgeous. So where did you get the old cookbook? Was it yours or did you find it somewhere?
