COMFORT CLOTH / "DARK DAYS", PROGRESS, et al

I couched a pin/lavender sari silk
ribbon in a circle on my
Comfort Cloth this week--
and
then
I did  a running stitch surround
on the outer rim...

and
This morning I whipped that running stitch
and added an inner running stitch on the
inside of the circle
and added a
whipstitched wool/felt
heart...

[Here you can also see the whipped
outer running stitch better...
I love how it thickens that simple
running stitch line]
💗💜💗
I will be adding more stitchery to this first
block, but I am not sure what I want to
add as yet...

This January block (18" +/-)
can be added to:-- as ideas/
emotions/feelings/happenings
occur to me...

It is meant to be a
"cloth of comfort "
to turn to
during these
tumultuous, difficult
times....
A slow-stitched
journal of sorts....

***********************
This noon I will be putting together
my chicken soup from the leftover
chicken dinner we enjoyed
last Thursday;
meanwhile,
we have each had another total
meal and also
sandwiches from it.

 There is just
enough left for a good,
warming soup for our
supper tonight...

Soup is so good on these
cold, gray days...;)))
😍😋😍

  4. Your book sounds interesting but challenging. I ordered a sample. Thanks
Lovely work on your Dark Days project, so thoughtful.
Def soup days, tho I made stew this week instead. Taste test said Yes! A M Stewart recipe , simplified.

  5. I love whipped running stitch and use it often. I like how it gives more 'presence' to the stitching. I also like using doubled rows of blanket stitch for the same reason.

  6. There will be a plethora of emotions stitched into your comfort cloth. I love that little heart. A bowl of chicken soup is the perfect antidote to a Winter's day. Xx

  7. I watched the comfort cloth videos last week and that circle stitching is calling to me. I so enjoy the way K3n asks us to be thoughtful.

  8. The silk ribbon and wool heart are nice additions to your comfort cloth. Hubby made chicken noodle soup for me yesterday. I'm having a heck of a time kicking this cold!

  9. Oooh, the ring is a great addition. This time going around in circles is a good thing.

  11. I think handwork is the best therapy during these dark times. We can work off our anxiety. Love your hand stitching! Soup is perfect these days to ward off that bone chilling cold.

  12. Dark Days is really taking shape, Julierose. How interesting and innovative this piece is. I went back a few posts to read more about it. Nothing beats hand stitching for comfort and control of a piece, in my opinion. Happy Stitching from me!

  14. I love watching all your projects - you have such a lovely variety - but this block and the way that you are building up the layers of motifs and stitching is truly lovely! Thank you so much for sharing it. I'm with you, soup and stitching are the best ways of getting through dark days, and celebrating the good ones!
