This afternoon I spent "crafting"
as opposed to sewing....
and I made some
button garlands...
what fun this was...

A great tutorial for using up all those bigger
buttons you may have saved...
I had a whole tin of them
some from my Grand-mere and
my Mother from the days when
people saved buttons....
and cut them off of no
longer wearable items...
Here is a closer look at the
garlands I made

some of these buttons came from Jeri's Etsy shop...
I have them hanging from our two floor lamps
in the living room right now; but
they will be draped over our table top
Christmas trees this year shortly...
We plan to put up the trees on
Black Friday--which is my total
recouperation day and sewing day...
I used some waxed linen thread that I had left over from
book binding to string them all together..
they have such a lovely soft tinkling sound too;))))

Early this morning I did my final (I hope)
Thanksgiving Day shopping...
I was at the store by 8:30 a.m. and
was so surprised to see that it was
just jammed already with shoppers!!!
⌚💸🏃🏪🚗
Turkey-Lurkey is thawing nicely in our
fridge and I have everything on hand
both for the meal and the appetizers...
My daughter, Candice, will be bringing
sides and an appetizer and the pies...
I hope all of you who celebrate

So glad to hear that you got in your final shopping trip before turkey day, Julierose. Tomorrow is our shopping day. Your button garland is just darling and brought back so many fond memories of a button garland made by my Great grandma. I am going to see if I can locate mine for display. Yours is so very lovely . ReplyDeleteButton garland! What a beautiful idea. I have so many buttons that I have inherited over the years. Have a wonderful holiday. Grocery shopping today for me. Some prep work tomorrow and then Thursday will be lasagna--I let others pick the menu each year. Enjoy and relax!
ReplyDeleteButtons are a timeless decoration, nice even after you use them for a little tree garland. I used to do custom dressmaking and there were always leftover buttons from mine and my customers' garments. I'm guilty of not having all of the buttons in the same location. Maybe someday I need to designate one box for all of them to see what I have.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun use for buttons! I, too, have inherited them from my mother and my grandmother, along with what I've collected over the years. I'm somewhat ashamed to admit that I have eight jars of them but I used to have 14 and managed to get rid of tons of them.
