GHOUL-A-THON:  After much fabric trial and error, I finished up my Ghastlies wallhanging--

All these strange and weird creatures just fired up my imagination:

It took the longest time to pick out the final border; but I think it looks nightmarish enough to contain all its unearthly population....

Here's a change--right???I was dreaming of Spring yesterday and was ironing all these light fabrics  and just sat down and free-pieced--for fun....I have NO idea exactly what to DO with it, but perhaps some idea will hit me.

We are hunkering down in preparation for Storm Charlotte this Friday--some forecasts predict over 1' - 2' of snow and 30 - 50 mph winds.  Did our food shopping this morning (got all those snack foods--did you all know that it's okay to eat junk food during a storm???ROTFLOL)...

GHASTLIE MONDAY TREAT and TRICKS

I decided to" treat" (ha-ha) myself this morning with 15 minutes of play a la Victoria: 

 I just adore this fabric and it's been sitting on my shelf for way too long now- And....this batik  (you can really see those great colors if you click on the pix) is ages old--YIKES! from the 70's--I've NEVER even used it!!  See, here's my reasoning (read: rationalization) :--)))

  I've been soooo goood ironing scraps, re-arranging fabrics & just working on my ufq's (unfinished quilts) since Jan. 1st that I had to perform a "trick" or two on my design wall--I hate that empty whiteness!!  

Anyhoo...here is the start of my --at last--Halloween wallhanging...I don't do orange somehow--at least not much--so this fabric really called my name.

Windy but clearing here--just a spritz of snow last night--cold tho'.  

Mom not doing too well, she has pneumonia--so I guess I needed something to help me along in the "smile"--keep calm and carry on--department.  

Back to "good girl" tying for now...Je vous aime, toutes mes belles amies,

DECIDING (?)--SUNDAY THOUGHTS

I've decided I am going to "enjoy" tying my "Blues-ey" quilt & just take my time.  Slowly....admiring all those old fabrics that recall my other quilts..(.the backing I've turned over is an all-time favorite, just a little bit left now....)...bits and pieces of the past....shards of memories tiling in my thoughts......

Can you "decide" to enjoy ???  I think so...making carefully tied taut knots; ; ; snipping the ends carefully...humming ...an old song running through my mind that my father used to play so beautifully on the piano....hearing my Mom singing along....in my young days...falling asleep to those wonderful, comforting sounds of home. 

What do you think?  Can you decide to enjoy???

SURPRISE(S) REVEALED-(Family News)

SEE THIS FAMILY....my son, Jeff, his wife, Lindsay ...and TA-DA...my sweetie Fiona...WELL....

This coming August I will have aNOTHER grandchild--yup!  Lin is expecting the end of Aug--@ the 22nd!  We are just all so elated 

Here's Jeff telling 'Kota the news--he had to break it to her gently--she is, after all the Original "Bebe" .  

Here is Kota whispering her news to a delighted Fiona! "The 3 of us can all play together"--and Kota thinks:  more food dropped on the floor for me, too (heheheh).....such fun times.

AND HERE is the 2nd surprise:

STEVEN, my oldest grandson, auditioned for the Jazz Band in the High School for next year (ohmygosh--he's in high school already???) and he MADE IT!!  Here he is playing his big solo in his Middle  School Winter Concert .

We are all so thrilled!!

BLUES-EY RETURNS

I finally finsihed (!!), straightened and bordered "Blues-ey" this afternoon; I tried out about four different borders (ribbit, ribbit--bleh!!) . Decided that this one picked up the scrappy blue toile inside....this has turned out to be a LOT BIGGER than I had planned:  duh:  62" long by 50" wide....

Here are a few of those favorite old fabrics I used & the border:

I've had a lot of these scraps hanging around since the 70's!!

Don't you love that wild daisy?  And of course my music fabrics....

I am happy with my outcome--when I realized JUST HOW MANY PIECES I had to cut and sew, I never in the world figured I'd finish this...(welll, almost--the top is DONE).

NOW for the backing....(hmmm, I wonder how long that will take, hehehehe)

FLU--BEGONE!! & A FINISH!!

Now that the flu has flown (for the most part!) 
I was able to bind my "Spider in the Jardin"--finally  my first finish for 2013!!  

I have been spending a few hours here and there ironing and sorting all my scraps into colorways...and in the evenings working on my "Pretty Pansies" table topper--it's about half done :

I am sorry to state that I had to give up on "Easy Street"--just TOO MANY PIECES--made me totally frustrated.  Perhaps it was the flu--as the design is really pretty.  But I have put it all away and am concentrating on finishing up my "Woven Wall Ladies"..

Expecting weekend guests and then MLK Day visit from my daughter and family, so the WWL work will wait until after.  

I am trying to spread out my quilting and re-think how I go about choosing projects....I do know that another hexagon project is in my thoughts and perhaps a "made-fabric" (a la Victoria Findlay) from my scraps....a lot of thinking going on here....

MY WORLD....and WelcomeTo It!

Hit by the Flu Bug, I have been definitely AWOL.  I am better, but not 100% by any means.  Boy, when that hits, everything else is put on hold and you visit some foreign country....I am on my way back into what passes for my usual life.  So far, no quilting, no cleaning, no eating ....no nuttin'!!!  I am able now to sip some tea and have a few saltines.  (Do ya think I'd lose some WEIGHT??? No such luck)

I have put away any and all quilts in progress that require a "zillion" pieces; just not up to it.  No resolutions; just a few ideas floating around.  
I will be back when my brain fog clears.....Happiest of New Year's to ALL
