CARAVAN TIME TRAVELS, et al

Welcome to my Caravan Travels this Snowy Sunday...
Going back in time to imagine glamping days of yore...

March has begun here with a snowy morning..
So far, just flurries...
We were hoping for some melting,
but it seems not....;((((

This is another resting day for me as I have
been a bit under the weather with the
Lyme disease rearing its ugly head
once again last Thursday night...

I so wanted to get my JRJ rows trimmed and
sewn together by now, but NOPE!! πŸ‘ΎπŸ‘Ώ

Instead I am mostly napping and hydrating..

And so it goes....
I hope you are all well as can be
this first day of our
new month...

JRJ PROGRESS, et al

I've sewed all the precut all blues
strip sets I cut yesterday
plus 4.5" sq inserts into rows...

I used this chart from Rose's tutorial
below:::
⇊⇊⇊⇊
Each row adds up to approximately 42";
and this chart is so easy to follow
when using her precut amounts...

Thank you so much for this wonderful
tutorial, Rose; I really am enjoying
working on this...;))))

I decided to use the Fern batik print
instead of a varied charm pack..I've
had that Fern-ey batik print for
yonks in my stash!! And
my idea is:
 blue skies and
Spring's emerging ferns..
🌿🌺🌱🌷🌹
[Ah Spring--I need you soon!!:)) ]

PLUS.....
I have enough strip sets cut
to make a 2nd quilt
the same size...with my
leftover cuts...

So, TWO quilts from one jelly roll...
well worth the time and effort for me...

{uh, have you checked the jelly roll prices
lately?? I mean really??  $$πŸ‘ΏπŸ˜•πŸ‘ΊπŸ‘Ή}

***************************
We will be having a lunch/dinner
special today and
Le Chef TomπŸ˜‡
is making his Swedish Meatballs
over noodles....
No cooking for me today--
yaya!πŸ’ƒ

So, I had plenty of time to sew and
sew and sew and sew.....
πŸ˜€πŸ˜πŸ˜‚πŸ˜„

I am having a cup of tea and resting
my shoulders after that workout.

JELLY ROLL JIVE JOURNEY, et al

Yesterday I opened my very old  blue batiks
jelly roll; (click to see color chart)
and separated all the shades
using
↧↧↧↧
Rose's  published tutorial on the Moda website...
and separated and cut per instructions...

And this morning....

I sewed that l o n g --l o n g-- long
first row following her instructions...

I am a bit "squirrel-ey" after that
sewing stint--but, I did take a couple of
breaks and used pen and paper to
check off where I was.

P H  E  W  !!!!

Tomorrow I shall iron all those seams open...
[and then most likely take a little nap;)))]

I am using this jelly roll as a "test run"
before I use my cherished
"Whimsey Wonderland" jelly roll and
charm pack...
I need to SEE πŸ‘€πŸ‘€πŸ‘€
how it turns out...

I made a regular jelly roll race
with the cheddar and blue roll
and it's okay, but not really
to my liking:
It's okay, but I don't like how the colors
all got "glommed" together...πŸ‘Ώ
I may cut this into placemats....or
something...
πŸ˜₯😩😬😭

S  I  G  H

Anyhow, I began searching for different
ways to sew a jelly roll after this..
and one
without a whole lot of cutting
because
I feel if you are using a pre-cut
why
cut it a lot more????
and...
I came up with Rose's tutorial.

I saw the lovely strippy quilts she had
made on her blog...and felt I would
like to try to make one for myself.
My own lap quilt which I have used
for 12 years is beginning to really show
its age....so, I want another for
my daily use...

At first reading of her tutorial I was all "at sea";
but after  CAREFUL re-readings a few
times I began to understand it better.

And so, this is a test case in progress...

STAY TUNED....

Snow Days
Schools closed both yesterday and today...
We got 20+" from the blizzard!!
Tom pushed the snow away from our sliding
glass door and our front and garage doors..
that made us feel better until
and our plow guy could come and clear
the driveway and our front walk.

Our street has only had one plow run and
our Town crew is pretty pressed to get all
our streets cleared out...I hope the 4 of them
were able to spell each other...

You can see how the snow drifted
right up to our windows here,,,

It is still only in the high 20's today --so not much
melting going on despite the bright sunshine...

AND......
The forecast is for more snow tomorrow...
will this Winter ever ease up?????

It's been a good ten years since we've had
to deal with these snowfalls...

I hope wherever you are if you had to deal
with these blizzard conditions that you all
came out safely...

VINTAGE CARAVAN JOURNAL, revisited

In 2024 I joined in with Kristina's Shack on  YT
to make a caravan journal glue book...

When we were a young family we went
camping for our vacations...
Altho' we were "tenters", we always
wanted to own a small travel caravan...

Above is the front cover of my Boho-Style
Dream Caravan Journal
and
here is the back cover...
I began working on this in 2024 and want to finish it up...

Following are some of the pages I've finished
representing my imagined
"Life on the Road";)))

[some of you long time followers may recall these....]
Here is my imagined sleeping area with a
comfy hammock and a little window
to look out of...
and
And, what is a camping journey without a stop at
the oceanside at sunset????

Meeting up with the "gals" for a beach day....

Everyone coming together for a group party...

I plan on working on a few more pages to finish this
journey in the camper of my dreams....

****************************

Here is a shot from our driveway camera
πŸ‘€☃⛇

It is 6 p.m. and the snow has just
begun to come down here...
we are all cozied up and ready for
the coming blizzard conditions...

Stay safe and warm

SUNDAY STITCHING, et al

Here are the 2nd and 3rd pages in my
[#Roxy's Journal of stitchery Vol 9" on YT]
Fabric book...
a Dark  and sad page..πŸ˜ͺ
.
"Mi Corazon Rota" = my heart is broken
in Spanish.

I am using the story from the novel:
"Love in the Time of Cholera"
by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
for the month of February's pages.

I have just finished
basting everything down
and am beginning to
whip stitch the bird
representing love
flying away beyond reach
in the night sky...
πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”
*********************
Our weekly #Hillside Heart"  [YT]
prompts this time were:
"Dog and
Friendship."

Here is my interpretation using an
old  family photo along with
magazine images,
inks, and a circle stencil.
I used leftover fabric to make the
little tabs that came
from scraps I used under my
machine sewing needle...
hence all the stitching....
πŸ˜„πŸ˜‡πŸ˜

This one was a lot of fun to make...
a "happy page" ;)))))

{it's funny that when I first get
the prompts I wonder how in the world I
will be able to use both on one spread...}
This one is  a very simple
spread on one page.

The old family photo sits on top of
my prompt card and slips into the
bottom page pocket made from just
folding the edge of my own
teabag stained paper over.

****************************
We are watching the Luge Event
in the Olympics right now...
relaxing after a light lunch...

Tonight's dinner will be a
a very simple one:
An omelet with
 peppers and onions,
two strips of crisp bacon each
and toast with jam...

***********************
Tomorrow noon my
daughter and her SO
are dropping by for lunch with us
after going to a local concert
tonight nearby...

I will be making my own
minnestrone soup,
a green salad, and
serving snowflake rolls
with cheesecake for dessert...
(yummmummmm)
My kind of meal..;))))

Hope you are enjoying this
long weekend...

PAPER CRAFTING--WEEK 5

I made a few dangles for my "#Hillside Heart Prompts"
Journal Craft-a-long...

Here is Caroline's YT page...
Every week she picks two "heart" prompts from
suggestions we followers have sent in
to her and some of her own, too..;)))

This week's were:
Ballarina
and
Mother Earth..

We are to use them together
which makes for very free
pages...;))))

Below is my interpretation
of the two prompts
using mostly magazine images that
I've searched out
from my magazine stash...

[Ballarina was really tough to find...]

I laid down various scenes of earth
and then
added the images that I felt
symbolized both prompts...

The "Quiet" card flips over to give
this week's prompts...

When my hands need a rest from stitching
paper crafting is what I turn to..
πŸ’š

We are still pretty much snowed under here,
but today with a 33 degree temp there is
melting going on...thankfully!!!
