FABRIC JOURNAL FOR OCTOBER, et al

October prompts are:
"Gingerbread House"
and
"Winter Cabin",

Above is my base
for my
Gingerbread House
pinned in place.

I have yet to figure out
the fancy decorations.

I am not working very quickly
as I am still recuperating
from my Covid booster
and flu shots... they really
hit me hard...

But I am coming around
and able now to eat a bit...

**********************
I have just one Rose bush left that
made the trek here from
our former home:

I need to tie it up on our
new fence...

poor straggling thing.
 ;(((

I t did give a beautiful
pink display this Summer
despite our drought conditions...

Here are some little rose hips
↓↓↓↓
I think they are so cute...
I don't know if I could cut them to
use in a vase inside?
I don't want to damage the
plant though...
does anyone know???

Then, here is one of our Nellie Stevens
hollies very full of berries this year:
I just love hollies...and this variety
doesn't attract deer--
Thankfully.
:))))

I hope you are having a really
good weekend my friends.

  1. Glad to hear you're feeling better. I don't know if it was getting two shots at the same time or if this Covid shot is just more powerful. I'm feeling a lot better but I still get dizzy if I move too fast. The gingerbread house is a fun one, the striped candy at the side brightens it up. I don't think cutting the rose hips would hurt the plant any more that cutting a rose would. The plant is preparing to go dormant for the winter anyway. Have a wonderful day!

  3. Gingerbread House is darling! I am envisioning ricrac frosting trim and stripey bead candy--but I know your imagination will be even better.

I love holly, yours has beautiful berries.Omigosh, deer even eat prickly holly? They must be so hungry. I snipped some rose hips off a communal planting rose to bring in to draw but only a few. I don't know if its ok to cut more. My dad always cut armloads of red hips from his millefiori gully filler bushes, but that's a different type of rose. Google?

Feel better, enjoy the pretty days and just take it slow. Baby Mo and I only sewed about 10" of binding this afternoon.

    love

  4. PS It looks like you can safely cut the rose hip branches off as long as the trimming does not ruin the general shape of the bush. Also looks like your bush could use a general pruning for shape and strength, it says late fall/ early winter when bare but before it begins new
growth.. Of course someone here may know more about roses and have a different idea.

  5. Sorry to read that you are still feeling unwell after your shots, they really seem to have hit you hard. Take care, rest up, and hopefully today will be a better day for you.

  6. I'm afraid I can't answer the rose hips question, hopefully someone else can.
Love the striped fabric you found for your gingerbread house - it's perfect!

  7. Lucky you being able to grow Holly, we were used to Holly in the North of England but here in Auckland it's just too hot and humid in Summer and Winters are not cold enough for them. Hope you're feeling better day by day.

  8. during the growing season if you snip off the rose buds it will encourage the pplant to bloom and not make more seeds. will not hurt the plant clipping them off.

  9. We both had our Covid boosters and I got the flu shot, too, last weekend. I think getting two shots at a time must bring on more of a reaction - I didn't feel good for a couple days either. Hope you'll feel better each day, Julierose! Your gingerbread house beginning is so fun! Enjoy your stitching on it.

  10. Love the house you have created! Hope you are feeling better each day this weekend. The flu shot hit me this year and I was off for a day or two. Looks like it is a bad flu season in other parts of the world so hopefully they guessed the right dose on the vaccine for us. Slow and steady wins the race!

  11. I'm so sorry you had a negative reaction to the covid shot. Most people I know haven't but you can just never tell. I hope you feel better soon.
Such a sweet little house. I am always amazed at the fabrics you choose. You must a large and varied selection of fabrics!
